January 1979. Weird, freaky cover by Jo Ellen Trilling.

Not the easiest book to find in grade. This one could use a little upgrade.

July 1979. Cover by Richard Corben and Rick Courtney. My favorite cover of the entire run.

Not a bad copy, but being my favorite cover, I want a pristine copy. I've not found one yet.

I have no more from this year, and I'm missing 1980 completely.

Another intermission while I scan 1981.

...not that anyone is watching. :tonofbricks:

I just realized that I'm missing a small stack. Some of these holes have been filled but I guess I've stuck them in another box.

May 1981. Cover by Enrich.

August 1981. Cover by Esteban Marato.

This is the infamous issue that caused my mom to throw all my Heavy Metals in the garbage.

The back cover is an illustration of a chrome rabbit having sex with a chrome turtle.

When mom saw it for the hundredth time and finally realized what it was she lost her mess on me. :ohnoez:

Good times. :cloud9:

Very nice scans. When I gave up collecting comics back in '81 or so, the hm books were the ones I held onto. They were just to hard to sell back then. I have a near complete run from issue #1 onto somewhere near mid 1982 or so, with a few misc issues sprinkled in from the '90s. The conditions range from F to NM. I think issue #1 is strong NM- or so. I really got to dig them out of storage one day.

October 1981. Cover by Thomas Warkentin.

Remember the insanely creative Rolling Stone cover with Janet Jackson?

Yep. Idea stolen from a comic book. hm

They're still hard to sell, aside from the first few issues. lol

I can't believe how popular this series was, yet how many people are clueless as to the incredible stories and artwork that's in these books. :applause:

Easily in my top five covers from the entire series. This one is just incredible. ^^
