It looks like there is either some tanning on the BC or some condensation issues on the bottom left BC. If that's true, then it's 8.0 or so at best? I'm going 7.5. And if it's 9.0 or better, I'll be happy because have a bunch of books like that.

small scan and through the slab - tough to say.

 

I can't tell if the light area on the bottom left of the back is on the book or light reflection on the case

 

but I'll go 9.8

I would say 8.5 because it feels like there’s something going on since you ask.

Book manufactured without staples would be out of the question, since it would be green, right? Maybe a staple popped or centerfold detached at one staple?

It's a bad scan. BC is very clean.

It's a bad scan. BC is very clean.

 

I guess what I'm seeing is reflection from scanner. I can't see this below 9.4 unless there are indentions that don't show on the scan.
