FM #7 - "TOMORROW'S MONSTERS" VARIANT COVER

5 posts in this topic

I grabbed a FM #7 ("Tomorrow's Monsters" variant cover) for $183 (free shipping) on a Buy-It-Now last Thursday and it arrived today. The auction had just opened up and I was the second viewer. Now I have all three FM #7 variant covers - "Tomorrow's Monsters," ROLAND," and "WOR-TV Channel 9."

What I liked about this deal is that "EIDE'S ENTERTAINMENT" not only puts huge close up photos in their auctions, but I was able to call up their "brick and mortar" store in Pittsburg and speak with the guy in charge of eBay auctions. I talked to the guy who graded and put up the magazine up for auction.

I gave this magazine an 8.0 (VF) grade based on the photos and the conversation with the seller who said that "EIDE'S" grades on the very conservative, low side so as not to have complaints from customers later.

After seeing and handling it today I think it could even be a VF+/8.5. It has really nice gloss, lays completely flat, and there is absolutely no "foxing" or "browning" of the white back cover (or front cover, for that matter). The spine is tight and pages are off-white. A small "nick" on the cover edge under the "S" in the word MONSTERS and this issue's typical minor rubbing on the spine hold it back.

Anyway, see the photos below. - Mike

P.S. Of course, the full photo of the front cover is 201 KB, which is 1 KB over the limit these messages allow for a pic. So, I can't show the whole front cover. Unbelievable nonsense!!!

Ya, I wouldn't think much past a 7.0 or 7.5 on a lazy grading day. It's a great cover though.

7.5 is in the ballpark, but I still think it is worth an 8.0. If you look at CGC graded/slabbed FMs you can find mags in that condition getting an 8.0 and, in some cases, an 8.5.

How would you rate the FM 1962 Yearbook located at the following link:

Ignore the Forry autograph and go by the photos of the front, back, and spine.

(I would post them in this message but, as usual, they are just too big for this site to handle!)
