Some golden age nostalgia and divorce...

26 posts in this topic

Earlier this summer after 19 years of marriage, my wife and I separated. The divorce hasn't been finalized yet but through all the turmoil, I rediscovered some memories from the early to mid 1980s. Back to a time of youth and college and mail order comic auctions and sales :cloud9::preach:

As I was cleaning out the attic, getting the house ready for sale, I happened on several boxes that I really thought I had thrown out - they were full of Buyer's Guides, Wooley's and Gerber catalogs and other esoteric paraphernalia.

Finally had a chance to look through one box and thought I would share some pics

I like that radio guide. I enjoy listening to those old radio shows when I can. For a while I lived and worked in NY and my wife lived in Philly.

During my commutes back and forth, I listened to the old radio broadcast of shows made in the forties and fifties.

They were great fun.

By the way, I still have a basement filled with Alan LIght's old ad zines, toys, comics and Gerber ads and a few Auction flyers.

My wife always hated them.

I'll take the mint Action #43 for $200.

What the heck, I'll take the NM/M #42 for another $200.

I think if given the opportunity, we'd both bite the bullet and buy everything on the page. lol

Really wonderful to see.

Reminds me of how I'd buy back issues as a kid...

... Order a mail catalogue and drool over all the books I wanted that I could never afford...

then send my money for the books I could pay for in by mail, and wait for weeks for the books to come back..

Hey I have that Green Hornet. Not that it's anything special. But my collection is small enough that I don't often see something like that.

.....yeah, the ads used to say to allow SIX weeks for delivery....and it often took that long. GOD BLESS....

I took a few pics from some of the CBGs if anyone is interested. Kind of fun looking through these things. I had a run going back to the late 70s but I remember junking most of them :censored: Just happy I save these few boxes.

No special order to the pics.
