Creating a Registry Top Books List

Hey all - I'm not sure we want to go at this YET AGAIN, but I posted a request to build out the top 200 books of the silver age a few months ago.

 

There were a few interested parties and few good discussions about what books belonged and why.....but certainly didn't end anywhere near full agreement.

 

I asked Gemma in the Registry area to create a new custom registry set with the top 200 silver and bronze books. She replied that since it's not a recognized "top list", we would need to get some boardie consensus and do a vote before the would create it.

 

So, I'm not even sure what I'm asking here - and could see it getting annoying pretty quickly........ but would you like to see a top Silver/Bronze book registry set? If so, how can we get the easiest agreement on which books make the list....

 

I'll also post the conversation I had with Gemma and my actual working list.

I'd like to create a top 200 silver age books list to the registry (similar to the "top 100 books of all time - Weiss" set, but with my list!)

This is a tough one for me...since it is your list and not an industry-recognized one (like Weiss) I would prefer if you posted it as a poll in the Registry polls section so I can gauge if other users agree with your list since it is so custom. If the poll is in your favor it will be added. :foryou:

I only need 2 issues to have them all, but as a registry set, I probably have 5 of them slabbed.

There could be an argument for a few different books, but I dont know what you would remove, its a good list (thumbs u

Showcase #4 & Showcase #13, these would also complete my Showcase collection.

 

I should have had a VF+ #4 20 years ago but I wouldn't pay the £500 he wanted :facepalm:

 

I missed a #13 for just over £100 last year on ebay when my PC froze in the last few seconds :tonofbricks:

 

I cant afford the big bucks these days, so unlikely I will ever get a #4, I will probably get a mid grade #13 at some point.

Interesting idea expanding the list to 200. Just for convenience sake I took the list and sorted it by comic book title. Thought this might make it easier to see exactly what is on the list, and perhaps to modify the list, as MLMeade already has a few suggestions.

Avengers 8 makes the list but not Avengers 9 ( 9 commands higher prices than 8; toughest of the early Avengers issues to locate in high grade ) :makepoint:

Appreciate the input guys. Back to the subject line, what i'd like to accomplish is a list of the top books so we can create a registry list for us to use. We could easily get bogged down into minutia of whether Cap 110 should be book #200 and make the list, versus #201 and not make the list :insane: , but what i'm looking for is getting a list approved by the masses.

 

One way to do this, would be take the top 200 books and cut it down to the top 150 or something. That would eliminate alot of the issues P in P or MLMeade mentioned, just because those books in question probably get cut off if the list only goes to 150

 

one way to do it could be dollar value, although I've always felt significance of a book should be more important (otherwise you end up with even more early spideys and ffs.... okay for spidey and ff collectors, but... you get the drift).

And by the way, I think the registry is a fabulous idea. And I'm not trying to derail this at all, but I thought you were looking for consensus on the top 200 as well. And some of the current selections seemed pretty debatable.

 

 

The Tec225 issue has been vetted a few times, and I thought the majority opinion there was that Showcase 4 starts the silverage, meaning Tec225 is not on the list.

 

As for which books go on the list, yes, you're absolutely right - looking for a way to build consensus. The problem is that i think we'll get lots of debate on #100-150 and perhaps insurmountable debate on #150-200.....
