Mainstreaming Comic Characters

Saw this in todays Sunday Parade. (Yes, unlike MK who sits pasty-faced in front of his computer 24/7, I actually read other things and get a bit of sunshine now and then.)

I realize the movies are mainstream but who was the biggest audience besides ASM fans? What does this figurine mean to you? Who will it appeal to? For some reason my first reaction was negative but who knows, if it brings in more readers maybe the great crash can be postponed for a while.(jk-JC)
