A smudge on the glass would pretty easily break the focus of the scanner in that area and make it appear lighter.

Here is a new front cover scan of oakman29 after cleaning the bed since I obviously can't tell the difference between a color touch and a smudge on scanner glass (thumbs u

 

I do agree that this is in the 6.0 range +/-.5

Looks like a 5.5 to me. The back cover is very nice though.

5.5 for me. Too many issues going on the front cover. Real nice color strike though.

Looks like a 6.0 but as you've indicated it could go +/- .5 in either direction pretty easily.
