Safes + comics = Pedigree CGC 9.8 Hulk 182 turning into THIS

I keep my safe dehumidified, so I think that should cut down on any rust

Yep. Avoid those safes that are rated airtight or waterproof. That and some simple dehumidifier solutions, you should be OK.

Any specific suggestions on the dehumidifier solutions/packets? hm

I keep like 5 of these in my safe at specific areas. Cheap, reliable, and very convenient to recharge once the silica has been saturated.

NOTE: 5 is overkill, but I like the peace of mind.

Mine are on my walls. I do like to look at them.

Under UV protected glass I hope?

Displaying comics, even in a CGC slab is just asking for cover fading.

No UV glass, but no direct sunlight either. In my stairwell leading upstairs.

Any light at all can cause fading

I like to display my books. My man-cave santuary has NO windows. The light wattage is very low and only goes on when I venture down there.I also use the Eva Dry 333 mini de-humidifiers in my safes (thumbs u

I cringe everytime I see that picture. Something else was going on there. I have a gun safe in my basement with a nearby dehumidifer. I have kept raw comics in there for probably 10 years with no problems. I have kept slabs in there for 5+ years with no problems. Not sure of the specific situation with the safe in that picture but there must have been some other chemicals involved. From what I remember it happened quickly, a 9.8 Hulk 181 no less. Even in a humid environment it would take a long time to get that kind of rust. In summary, I believe safes are safe for your staples.

I've got a safe deposit box.....it's a hundred a year. I keep MOST of my good books there and a couple at home. I swap them out from time to time....it's almost like getting a new book :insane: GOD BLESS...

Can I store one of those Cabela's dehumidifier thingys in a larger bank safety deposit box? Is it practical?

Depending on the humidity in the area it needs to be recharged once every couple of weeks or so

Interesting - I would probably buy two of them then so I could swap it out upon visits.

Thanks

That is a really good idea.

I must admit I am leaning to what Jimbo said earlier - bank deposit box and have just a couple at home with say $10,000 of specialist insurance.

Thanks for all the good suggestions peeps.
