This is so technically mundane that it fails to rise to the lowly level of kitsch that could help save it from the pure krap it is; which is nothing but crude Nazis exploitation. It’s so bad that it offends my sense of good taste.

 

& btw, my opinion is that Nazis make the coolest villians.

This is how I view this image.

The style is appropriate for the subject matter, having almost a Ludwig Holwein feel to it. Certainly not as good as LH, but a worthy effort in an admittedly overused style. Still, here the style at least makes sense. The contrast and bold use of color is striking and dynamic, and with nothing but a simple turn of the head the artist suggests, not just a scary baddass Nazi, but an active malevolence. This is not just a portrait. RS sees you, and is going to do something about it.

 

You certainly don't have to agree with me, in fact I'm sure my assessment will be mocked, but enough other boardies seem to enjoy the image and I'm glad I shared it with them.

Well, I'm disappointed to learn it was a swipe, so no marks for originality, but it's still a compelling, bold graphic. He has greatly improved on the original. The swipe aspect is admittedly a little hard to see past though, but I still appreciate the image and yes, Holwein.

Perhaps. I completely see his point about Nazi porn, there is plenty of that and it is generally terrible. This certainly treads that line, if not stepping over it completely (that is a pretty honking big swastika), but I think designer has a good eye and did an excellent job with this.

I half-expected some heated swastika blather, not the artistic merits of the piece though. My senior thesis was about WWII propaganda posters, so I spent a year or so studying lots of stuff like this, vintage and contemporary, and I still think this is a pretty good example of the genre.
