Tarzan a Go-Go!

6 posts in this topic

Toronto ComicCon is weeks away and can you guess what I'm hunting for?

Well after some time in digging through the old boxes for low grade early Dell Tarzan Comics I've decided to take the time and money and buy back some of the DC Tarzans.

I had a few of these from waaaaaayyyy back, but you can only imagine the drawing I doodled into these things as a kid, so now I need to buy them all again. Curse me and my comic destroying ways in my youth! I wonder why people don't see value in the art I put on top of Joe Kuberts art?

Now the largest problem I'm finding is getting the 52 page mosters at a good grade.

Oh well I guess my wallet and a few hundred bucks need to part ways on the 9th and 10th of March while I pay for ths sins of my youth.

Issue 207 and 211: I'm coming for you! (Arrrr: fairly warned be ye, says I)

I feel the same way about my old Wolverine(1988's) In raw form I have the complete collection. In wanting to send to grading not so much.... I was such a happy child when destroying those comics i guess. There was one issue #75 that had one of those Hologram cards on it.... I say had becuase for some reason I thought to rip it off and place it into a binder for safe keeping???? Smart child huh.

Oh well, like you I must rebuild what is now broken and am certainly seeing the price being paid. Funny thing though is that now a part of me wants to get those childhood ones graded and then have it and a 9.8 side by side. So I can show where I was as a kid and where I am now as an adult.

Good Luck

I remember watching Tarzan many times on a dreary Saturday afternoon. If I was lucky, my dad would be on the couch next to me. I never collected Tarzan as a comic, i don't think i ever will, but that is not to say that the picture above is nothing less than amazing. The great thing about the journals is I learn and see so much I never would have. What I have enjoyed by looking in back issues and finding rare treats of books of my youth like Supernatural thrill's #2 and Fear #8, they brought back a feeling of nostalgia, and not I remember this, but I remember when a simple comic book was all it took to make me happy, it's kind of funny, because all these years later the same is true for me today, and I hope for you.

Let me know how you do in Toronto.

That is a nice one! I was just looking at that one in auction last week, although I believe it was a 9.6-those darker backgrounds are the curse of the collectors. Nice find.

I think the other great thing about the Tarzan ones is the Covers-I have to say Kubert just shredded those covers: every one screams action is either happening or is seconds away from happening (as opposed to some pose). You can almost hear the action in them!

Well lads, I'll scan and upload the purchases (here's hoping we have a good selection this year).

Good news:

Ha HA! Tarzan #207 in the bag! Ungraded and in my opinion no worthy of a 9.4 or anything, but I'll take it.

I also got a great Shazam 100 pager and a Superman Family 100 Pager. Good finds and a cheap price.

Bad News:

#211 as no-where though. No idea what happened there but that one cannot be located at any of the dealers booth.

Mark Texeira did not show up for the entire time I was at the show-How is it an artist I like is at a booth and does not even bother to show up? Seriously dissappointing. Next time I read he's making an appearance I won't bother bringing my copies of his stuff for signing.
