The End Of Pedigrees?

I'm wondering now whether a combination of CGC and eBay/other online auction services might actually contribute to the death of pedigrees, at least for semi-sophisticated OOs, who can now slab their books and then sell them directly instead of having to go through a middleman. Pedigrees were typically a marketing angle hyped by the dealer that "discovered" the collection, so an OO who's able to sell on his own might not even try or care about getting a pedigree designation.

With the increase in cleaning and pressing the importance of provenance may actually increase the role of the known pedigrees. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif
