April sales are out

Ya - it's also interesting to see how much unlimited variants help boost sales; look at WD #109, for instance, with its huge print run increase due to the blank cover.

if only their were a HIGHLY controversial graph that could demonstrate your point ;)

Morning Glories --- gets 150% increase, very interesting.

I'm assuming the spike is the 100th issue, correct? If so, what's so controversial about it?

Nice Table, CBT.

What happened in MG #26? That is a huge spike!

It's the first issue of the second season of MG - it was priced at $1.00 to try to lure new readers, so it's safe to say that stores ordered a lot more copies than normal.

Issue #27 is back to $3.99, so the number should drop significantly for that issue.

How odd. So if you sell a comic at a lower price does that mean more people are willing to buy it? hm

the insane spike is 100, and the bump at the end above the norm is the blank variant. Refer to the table of month to month i posted for actual numbers.

the controversy was regarding my chart, and i was being tongue in cheek about it. Read the first 25 pages of the thread if you want to get the joke.

My point was mostly, that with lots of data, and a stable print run, aberrations show very well on the graph. In the case of WD 100, it is causing the scale to be almost unreadable on everything else.

you can see though, that the blank is the second highest seller ever, and that very few of the issues tend to jump that much from one month to the next.

For everyone else's discussion

OK, so playing around with some data manipulation in the chart i posted earlier. There very well could be oversights/errors here, so feel free to point out any issues nicely ;)

Here is my best attempt, at every Image comic book from 2009 to present, % change in print run, for books that had an issue release in April. I feel like there are some artifacts in there, series that didnt have a book in April, but still, some interesting data.

Anything that didnt start within the range 2009 to present, and had less than 30 issues during that time, has been removed. The entire thing is sorted descending in %increase in Print Run

:ohnoez:

I choose april as the target, to keep it on topic to the thread. Enjoy/discuss.

Aw, man... I didn't want that!

I was actually having fun... it's not often that I get to argue charts with other charty-type people.

Yes, I know rules-are-rules, but if it is possible, I'd like to bring him back.

If nerds can't fight about nerdy stuff online... we have no outlet!

I know it's not worth much now... but...

I'M SORRY CBT!

I read this at the time you posted it. I actually had a very good streak of ending all the outstanding beefs I had on the board with people in the couple of weeks prior to this. I appreciate the apology, and I am happy to move forward drama free.

:takeit:

To that end, while staying on the subject prior to the week's interruption. I know sites like yours, MyComicShop.com, and several other have access to the Census Database. Does CGC have an API for their Database, or is it just raw access? Who moderates access to this at CGC? I'd be interested in making some tools to work with the Data and am curious who to speak to about such endeavours. Cheers.

Census data (current, generally weekly) is made available in a raw data zipped file format.

Contact Gemma Adel to ask about getting access... I don't know what approval process CGC uses.

why a strike?

THREAT!!!

Nope, "implied threat", because i didnt actually threaten anyone, and even stated so. A mod's opinion was that it was a threat, and a ban given with no warning, or communication and my post saying that i wasnt threatening anyone was scrubbed to boot.

If you're going to quote me while whining about precision, use the whole quote w/fine print!

My response was to TBP & it was written that way because I was imitating his posting style - so that's why it as all capped up w/punctuation!!! :sumo:

Not because I saw what you did as an "all-caps_three_exclamation_mark_sumo" "threat" :screwy:

Welcome back.
