IMSM #1 makes it in the movies

113 posts in this topic

So is a 9.0 really the best copy you own Cal?

Brendan who is highly let down by this development.

I am amused that a Walking Dead #1 9.8 is worth more than most IMSM #1s that are in existence, just goes to show how crummy of a book it is.

Cal owns or has owned 9.6s.

Walking Dead picked up on the show's hype. Low print run coupled with a current popular TV show, who cares ?

It's a 10 yr old book. zzz Most probably have socks older than that.

IMSM is a 45 yr old comic book featuring a one-shot for 2 very popular super-heroes.

I can't believe I just watched the whole thing

It wasn't that bad.

There were lots of comics in the clip, and cal was in it.

One point each for cool and goofy.

2/10

Well I just wasted five minutes of my life. The sad thing is, that I have was my time in worse ways than this.

Bring on the sequel!

Funny that the word I was trying to use was "wasted"

Your picture is pretty accurate! Sorry!

I'm surprised at how slow this thread is actually moving. I expected much more from it.

I am holding it back through sheer will.

A muscle-up of magnificent proportions.

You are like the little Dutch boy who stuck his finger in a dyke.

Holly was adorable.

I believe Cal has mentioned school a few times,so maybe it was a school project. Good for them...looked like they had fun. Would have been nice if the bad guy was not the only minority, but he might have been the best actor.

Glad to hear from someone much more, uh, let's say what it is: mature.

Sky, good to hear from you!

Here's the deal about that CMF movie: They give you 7 calendar days to submit your 5 minute film. This includes the slug( opening black title space), and Credits.

If you use THEIR iMac, which I did, they have more rules, but fair ones.

In my case, I had the original actors and a few of the crew flake out on me, and I nearly just submitted an "incomplete", which is common. However, ON THE LAST DAY I got Saul and his son to help out. The crew was still UCLA students( required), but even then one did not show on the 6th day. I had to learn editing on-the-fly, no tutorials, no nothing but watching Mr. Bateman on a different project.

Holly was not supposed to bark at Saul, but did, and we got a great crowd reaction for that! Sort of a black comedy laugh, so that was a gift we enjoyed immensely.

Not to completely throw the UCLA crew under-the-bus, but they were told well in advance how far Ventura County can be where we needed to shoot, and I even offered gas money, so there was no real reason for them not to show. I really showered the ones who showed a real good time, feeding them well, and a great time was had by all. I had the back room at Mimi's cafe reserved just for us, and we had a blast!

I chose NOT to send this into the different competitions, because we had to change the story at the last minute, so to speak. I did, go to the UCLA show where we saw some GREAT 5 minute short movies, and a few made the Regional rounds.

This was my 2nd movie. My first, named The Reward for Returning Holly, is a 7 minute movie, made for our Directing Actors and Camera class last year. That one is on Vimeo, and some interesting comments are there. Also on my Facebook page are the still photos if you search far enough.

Now, I have my OWN equipment, except for Sound. Sound with a capital "S" because the sound was ruined in the Holly movie; the last scene we were filming at the Clubhouse within our housing development, and even though it was a weekend shoot, the cleaning crew and maids came in to clean that Clubhouse( they had some 200-guest party the night before). They turned on TWO or more vaccuum cleaners, and despite my requests to wait 15 minutes, they continued. But heck, it was their jobs, and they probably wanted to get out of there asap, which we understood. The DP, Gary R., suggested that we can "fix it in post". Being new, I bought this. What a mistake that was. THREE HOURS in the editing room tweaking, replacing, ADR, you name it, it was just not quite right. Me being hard of hearing was not a problem, as I used headsets full blast, and even I could tell the sound was not 100%. You can trick they eyes, but not the ears.

Oh, the DP, who was "on loan" from CAPS TV, told us that he had to leave at 12 NOON! We only had him for two hours, but managed to get 23 takes in. What I should have done was to offer the 12 Noon client to pay her for an hour extra, but no one thought of that until Gary had to leave. Learning on the job, the school of hard knocks.

Working on three different projects at the moment, but my time is limited. Between the Casino, eBay, and a sick doggie( Holly has cancer, been treating her since late January), and maintaining a family life leave little time for much else.

But I move forward. Only a few more classes left before I get my Directing Certificate. All A's except for one B. Made a TON of contacts in the Industry, and a lot of the comic book funds I raised has gone to rights, equipment, etc. The comic books will be a thing of the past by 2015.

Are you going to replace Joss Whedon for the next Avengers?!?!?!

Don't be ridiculous; Whedon did a great job as per se, what the Director needs to accomplish.

The final product in a "tent-pole/blockbuster studio" movie, which the Avengers is, is largely cut and pasted by the Director. The Director assembles ALL the pieces in pre, post, and principal photography( production). The movies is a collaborative medium, requiring the collective efforts, in this case, over 3,000 workers( most in the CGI/SPX).

If the movie looks great and fills the seats with rear ends, the Director is a genius!

The "homeless drinker" in the cardboard box was also a minority. Two Caucasian Actors, two Minority Actors, and one spectacular Doggie!
