Or My Top Ten Covers

So Lee K gave me(us) a new subject to discuss and attempt to answer I realized I never did answer the first one of top ten going in the casket from my collection. While this will probably change in the next 5 or 10 years most of these are based off of sentiment and not solely monetary amount.

So for my tenth which also happens to coincide with my tenth favorite cover or iconic was one of the first CGC's I ever purchased. Being a fan of Archangel and Apocalypse this cover was awesome to me due to its significance with the two characters.

On the cover its a simple photo of Angel but this remains the last time he was featured on the cover before he loses himself to his darker side as the Angel of Death, Archangel.

Within the story of Whose Death is it Anyways? lies the story of Angel's coming to grips with the loss of his wings and most notably the loss of his ability to call himself a mutant. While his X-Factor friends attempt to comfort him what can you truly say to a man who has lost what defines him. At the same time Cyclops is off on his own and doesn't realize until near the end that his place shouldn't be in his vendetta of revenge but in giving comfort to his friend in need.

Its not until the end of the book that its significance is seen with the coming of Apocalypse in need of that final Horsemen or in what is believed to be Angel's death by suicide. Its at this point that seomething else is created. One of my favorite characters, Archangel.

This brings up even more significance now that the Original X-Men have been brought into the future and everyone seens to hold out on giving the young Angel information on what has happened to him over the years, even after telling Jean of her death and Cyclops of his future.

For alls enjoyment X-Factor 15

Oh and one other side comment, is anyone else having an issue with the Chat Boards. At first I thought it was because I had cursed and this was there way of getting back at me, but even another individual here is having an issue getting on his with a different account. Any ideas please PM me as I can't read any of the replies if any of you so chose to do so.

Excellent choice K. An issue I am familiar with - heck, I'm sure there is a copy in one of my short boxes marked 'X'

I enjoyed that story arc - and this is a cover that speaks well to the viewer, purely with the art - no word balloons, no text boxes or extraneous banners. Whichever editor green-lighted this cover design did well.

It's good to see more people adding their lists! I'm still not as familiar with this era of X-Men, I remembered being very curious about the the transformation from Angel to Archangel as a kid, I wanted to track down these issues but I would always go with something else. Your description really makes me want to know more about this saga, also, killer cover!

When I first started my other Purge Survival List I also picked covers of the eighties that I thought were exceptional. I remember this cover being simple and as much as I love word balloons on covers this silent cover remained strong. A very nice choice.
