Non-Registered USPS possible?

Is it possible to have books shipped back from CGC using USPS Priority or standard?

The reason that I ask is that I am deployed to an American military installation and utilize an APO address.

I have been flat out told by the postmaster here that if something is shipped via Registered mail, then I will be very lucky if it shows up at all.

Obviously I would rather not take my chances with that so I was wondering if Priority w/ Insurance was an option.
