Liked it, didn't love it.

Too much

Space Jesus, Emo Supes and Disaster Porn

And not enough

Classic Superman. Neck snapping? Really? And Louis mentioning measuring? Really? Way too many false notes.

Between James Bond flunking spy school and Superman snapping necks, you have to wonder if anyone in Hollywood believes in anything anymore.

Seriously? Emo Superman??? I didn't see a Emo Superman,I saw a child strugging with his powers and using them to help others.

Well said, Sarah. And the big guy appreciates it too.

This was not the steady, sure of himself and his place in our world Superman of yore. This Supes was indecisive, confused, unsure, doubting and pouty. (On his knees, hugged by Louis? Demure much?)

And i'm not critiquing Kal El as a child. I actually thought those were the strongest moments of the film.

OH NO ZOD IS IN OUR RSS FEED!!!!

Dumbest movie since Star Trek Into Dumbness.

My friend if you didn't enjoy at least one of those movies then even a CGC 10.0 will never be good enough for your expectations.

I'm not saying I got no enjoyment. I just wish the writing was better to go along with the spectacle. Stupidity takes me out of the story and then I'm just sitting there going that looks cool...I will continue to hope for more.

I agree with this. To me it was like watching someone else play a Superman fight video game.

Saw it last night and loved it. I will rank this behind Avengers, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, and the first Iron Man.

I really enjoyed the look of this new version of Superman. Finally Hollywood finds someone who looks like Superman is supposed to be and this is coming from someone who grew up watching Christopher Reeve. Honestly after watching the movie I was inspired to hit the weights more, haha. On a side note I don't know if anyone else felt the same way but much like Brandon Routh sort of looked like Reeve, Cavil reminded me of a way more buff Tom Welling.

As far as the story and portrayal goes I didn't really see Emo Superman. I hate anything "Emoish", the teenager self angst while trying to look cool didn't come across. The movie wasn't too dark and the action scenes were great. Jor El and Krypton scene were very cool. This was the first time I've seen Superman using his powers / Kryptonians fighting being done with justice in a live action way. Yes it was a bit Sci Fi but Superman IS an alien.

Overall I think this was a good platform for a rebooted Superman series to take off from. I really believe many of the negative reviews are from people holding on to the original movie series a bit too tightly.

Why do comic book movies have to be dark and dreary and remind us of current times? Why can't they be light and fun without taking itself too seriously? The first Superman was a magical movie, while still holding dear to some dark moments.

The reason we read about superheros is to ESCAPE reality, not embrace it fully.

I didn't NOT enjoy this movie, just thought the subject matter and theme of the movie was too dark for Superman. Having Superman murder is just a no-no.

I just resent the notion that Superman and the movie have to be more "mature" to fit the times that we live in.

If DC and Superman wanted to make millions this was the only way kids would give a about the character.

Characters like Batman, Wolverine, and Spider-man are timeless because their origins/backgrounds will never get old.

1. Vigilantie

2. Anti-Hero

3. Teen-age Emo problems kids will always have

(4) Superman: loser chump that is a push over with God like powers. :taptaptap:

Superman's time was almost up till today's date.

A slightly darker Superman = realistic

I hate to say it, but a slightly darker supes to me is the only way he can play out to today's audiences.

And to an extent

I think his neck snapping made me understand his objections to killing even more. He really didn't want to, but his hand was forced.

Re: the neck snapping...I really disliked that change to Superman's moral character. Here is a better way to do the end. The Phantom zone thing sucks up all the flunkies and is closing and we have less than a minute before it is completely closed but Zod was not in the main ship or near enough to be effected. Superman and Zod can have their end of film requisite fight, and it is decided by Superman not Zod how it ends....Superman flies Zod towards the Phantom zone ridding the world of the threat in a selfless HEROIC act for he knows he could also be sucked into the phantom zone by getting to close to it. Then through sheer force of will / show of strength for a desire to live on the planet earth he resists the strong pull of the phantom zone and it closes and he falls to the rubble below. This end makes me cheer for the hero, instead of wondering why they made him kill someone else.

About the excessive carnage issue, what would you have Superman do, fly around at super-speed and rescue every person in the buildings being destroyed? I mean seriously, like in war, in a monumental battle like the one portrayed (for the fate of the entire planet) there would be casualties. Everyone complained that Superman was too squeaky-clean goody-two-shoes type superhero. So here you go, reality, as things might be if such a battle were undertaken for the very existence of humanity. So what's the problem?

OMG what's with all the hate on Man of Steel? (shrug)

I loved it.

The changes to his origin wasn't that dramatic.

Some of you are acting like Krypton didn't explode.

There were plot holes, but not enough to change my rating.

I will go on to say that Man of Steel is better than Iron Man 3 :o

Much better than Iron Man 3. By a mile. I didn't love it, but it was good. I enjoyed it. Like others, there were parts that I wasn't comfortable with, but all in all it was a fine treatment.

I'm with you. I didn't love this movie, but I didn't hate it. And, yes, it was miles better than Iron Man 3.

I agree too, and yet IM3 is 79% on Rotten Tomatoes and MOS is 57%. (shrug)

The masses are asses

that would be a ending that wouldn't have like To see. the fact That he did something out of character but at the same time made him to drop to his knees with pain and gilt. We going to see that aspect of pain of him not wanting to kill to be more believable In MOS 2 and the affect is going to have on him has a hero.

If you think Supes handling of Zod was objectionable....what was a reasonable alternative given the circumstance?

Additionally how would you realistically propose he neutralize all the collateral damage obviously inflicted by the antagonists in movie?

Would you suggest he talk everyone into submission?

No amount of super-anything could have negated the outcomes that people are upset over....

Even Zod and his henchmen in the original movies weren't hellbent on destruction.....they wanted to take over.....not make over.

I think people or older fans are use to the fact that superman somehow doesn't allow any villain to destroy anything. That's like not possible in the real world lol. I mean if he fought doomsday lets say... Half the country would be wiped out. That's just reality. In the Golden age superman was is overtly ridiculously powerful that he just stops time and other things. That to me is almost beyond science fiction and superman then seems like a God? I like the new superman better. Classic will always be classic.
