POST YOUR GRADER'S NOTES

36 posts in this topic

I'd like to start a thread where everyone who pays to look up their Grader Notes posts them here with the book's grade so we can learn what kinds of defects result in what grades. For instance, I just looked this up:

Grade: 7.5

Grader Notes:

Left Bottom Front Cover Medium Moderate Multiple Bend

Left Center Front Cover Small Lite Stain

Can we keep this going? Forgive me if this is already being done somewhere else!

Grade: 6.5

Grader Notes:

Spine Stress Lines Breaks Color

Right Center Front Cover Marvel Chipping

Interior Small Writing

Top Front Cover Small Multiple Piece Out

Interior Cover Tanning

BTW - this is an OLD LABEL book. Methinks that there will be more details the older the book was graded.

Guess I am gonna have to pay for some graders notes as 1 book that I have 3 or 4 copies of in what I thought were high grade,i submitted 1 of the 2 I had with me at the convention and it ended up as a 5.5. =( another a 6.0 which looks beautiful so saddened. Does ccs still give you clues to what they figure a book will grade after they press it? What I read a few years ago made me think that they did something like that??? Wouldn't be worth grading if when pressing they pointed out something you missed. Now I wonder if I should have gotten some of those pressed or if 1 that came back as a 9.4 would do better pressed? Well if anyone has any info on my ponderings, speak up so I can learn a thing or two from more experienced peeps!! The 8.0 and 8.5's really make me wonder if pressing would help? thanks for whomever replies in a constructive way =)

There's a pretty big gap between High Grade, and 5.5.

What are some of the most obvious defects on the covers?

Seems like they'd have to be pretty glaring to score a 5.5, and not a surprise.

7.5 modern

Full Left Back Cover Large Lite Multiple Crease

I don't know HOW I missed it...but I did. You can barely see it. When they say LITE they meant it.

I'll say it's the world's best looking 7.5 though.

What good is posting notes here, if we cant see the actual book in which the notes pertain? Cert number or scan would help, just sayin'

I agree...but in my case, the flaw simply wouldn't show up in a scan or photograph. Too hard to see....

even if I took it out of the case and scanned it...still couldn't see it.

Grade: 9.0

Notes:

Left Top Back Cover Chip Out

Bottom Front Cover Small Stain

The chip I knew about, I can't believe I missed the stain doh!

You can still get a 9 for that?

Jeez. I just graded one of my books tonight that had a small stain and a chip out and I gave it a 7.0 or 7.5.

Maybe I'm being too strict.

I included the grade date and PQ in case it helps factor into the grade and possible harsh/leniency periods. Here's all mine. My scanner keeps adding a blurry orangish haze to the top edge of the book image. Not sure how to correct this but here's the ones I can provide.

I guess CGC made some money off me last year.

This thread is useless without pictures

Here is one of mine. Was able to get the notes when they were available for free

Graders notes: Light rust on staples, store stamp on back cover.

Book looks NM but I agree with the grade because of the rust. I wish CGC could be consistent when grading books with rust on staples. I saw CGC 9.4 books with rusty staples so I am wondering

Do they still knock a book for having store stamps? I had a book graded that had a date stamped on it, and perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly but I thought they were fine with it.
