Also, great to have you check out this thread and post some of those books. I had just mentioned some of the "old" timers who were in the beginnings of this thread and the amazing collections compiled. The nicest raw collection of PH books that I came across was my first trip to the Chicago Con around 1995. Oakleaf Comics, out of Iowa I believe, had just acquired a high grade collection and I was one of the first to go through their boxes. Of course, at the time I only pulled issues that I was missing in my title runs. Most of those issues when slabbed years later were 8.0 to 9.2 grades. I remember the books were priced from $35 to $125, which was the condition guide price at that time. Still have the sticker price on this raw JIM 70 mysterio, *Bronze age fan*, Jasonmorris1000000 and 6 others

This cover has lived rent free in my head ever since seeing it as a kid, and I always wanted to get it super high grade but only finally bought this one last year, choosing it over a few 8.0 and 8.5 copies that honestly looked awful. It was one of the clearest examples I can remember of 'buy the book, not the grade' being painfully obvious when comparing options. I do hope to track down a higher grade copy one day and upgrade it (would love a 9.0, if anyone has leads let me know!) That was also my first PHM book I ever owned. Grabbed this copy a few years ago -bc Math Teacher, Sauce Dog, KirbyJack and 3 others

Jasonmorris1000000
I started my PHM collecting project when my I was putting my wife (now ex) through graduate school and didn’t have much money. My budget was $20-$40 per issue. Unfortunately you couldn’t get 8.0-9.2 copies in 2010 like you could in 1995. The upside is that I can read mine while not getting nervous about damaging them while I do so. bc, mysterio, KirbyJack and 1 other
