BOMBU1959-migration
yes theyre great, a piece of nostalgia for me, I know they are not as collectable as some of the beautiful archive quality books here, but for me as a child of the early 1960s, they bring back some nice memories of life in England at the time. cheetah
So what does the 9d stand for?
BOMBU1959-migration
Its 9 Old Pence. British pre decimal currency. It was was all very strange, and abolished quite correctly around 1973 when we entered the common market, read European Union. 9 D equalled - 9 12ths of a shilling, there were 24 shillings to the old pound, etc. so you could buy a huge trunk full of American comics for an old pound, now it costs 0.99p in other words 99% of a new pound just to list one comic book on ebay....That's inflation... AtlasFan
Howdy! Are these pence books in color? I remember seeing some issues of "CREEPY WORLDS" that reprinted Atlas (and fantasy stories by other publishers) in B&W Thanks & WTTB! Bill
BOMBU1959-migration
oh yes, they are mostly just UK price variants, identical in every way to the US ones, same printing presses, same print plant in the USA, the only difference is that they would mostly have the month removed from the cover due to the long sea voyage. They were distributed for Marvel by Thorpe and Porter. A British distributor that went bust around 1967. All marvel keys from 1960 to 1971 were printed in North America, then shipped here, Australia, South Africa, Canada, New Zealand. This was the World's second largest Marvel market. Creepy Worlds was the 'Alan Class' publication. All cheap B&W pulp interiors. Even they are now quite collectable, but these guys are original.
