Amazing Fraud #15 ?

It's simply astonishing that this listing is still active (now with a $13,100 leading bid), and reminds me of why I often consider a full-on personal boycott of eBay...not because of the fact that these scammer sellers exist (which is sort of a given in any environment), but because of eBay's incredible lack of responsiveness to such clear and overwhelming dooshbaggery.

Reminds me of a buying experience I had with a fraudulent eBay seller who shipped an empty envelope (for a 4 figure ASM purchase) to someone else's address in my same zip code. I can't tell you how many conversations I had to have with how many different people at eBay before I could penetrate someone's skull that, just because the seller shipped something to somewhere in my zip code and provided a UPS tracking number in the eBay system, it didn't mean that the book I bought was actually shipped to my address...It was hell to make them understand this, even after giving them the evidence from the UPS system that the package associated with the tracking number at issue was in fact mailed to some address that had nothing to do with me, but in my same zip code....unbelievable (story had a happy ending, though)

I agree with you there's stuff to be had on eBay. You can chose a seller, whereas a buyer is arbitrary and you can get a dud. eBay must be making a lot of money on the fraudulent listings so as to not give a hoot. And experiences like the one above with the high-dollar book being shipped (empty envelope) to a wrong address, makes me wonder if I'm safe buying anything off eBay if they're going to side with the thieves. Clink and the sales forums here are safer!

Good job, everyone. Justice prevails. :applause:

If only it weren't so temporary. There isn't much eBay can do about this--shut one down, scammer refines his technique and does it again. They ban the account, scammer creates another. The ultimate solution will be true identity verification of individuals across the Internet so that people can't act anonymously behind multiple throwaway user accounts, but that's a bit away, probably at least a decade or two. I'm not quite sure what the holdup is, but I'm curious about it. I know fingerprint scanners are pretty reliable and cheap now. Might be a political issue at this point. hm
