Pedigree Comics Purchases Major Early CGC Silver Marvel Collection For $600,000!

Breaking News! We have just acquired a major early Silver Age Marvel collection and the books will be available to bid on and purchase in our upcoming August Grand Auction. Scheduled to begin in just over three (3) weeks on the night of Sunday, August 25th and last for ten (10) days until the night of Wednesday, September 4th, the auction will have a few hundred choice high grade CGC certified Marvels and DC’s from the Silver and Bronze Ages plus other genres and publishers. The sooner you consign your books the more exposure and press they will receive. We aggressively promote and advertise each Grand Auction on many online sites and trade publications and we also send periodic newsletters to all of our over 19,000 customers announcing the individual auction items. There is no Buyers Premium on any of the lots in the auction and almost every item will have no reserve. Every book is CGC graded and the minimum bid is only $100.

The early Silver Age Marvel books come from the private collection of Cole Schave, a noted collector out of Green Bay, Wisconsin. As many dealers know, Mr. Schave is a very picky high grade CGC buyer who does not buy a book solely for the grade on the label. He focuses on superior page quality, registration and eye appeal and would routinely pass on many books he needed for his collection if they did not meet his strict criteria. Therefore, all the books in his collection have superior page quality (white or off-white to white with only a couple with off-white), structure, centering and presentation, with no date stamps, writings, etc., etc.

The collection consists of 68 early Silver Age Marvels plus 6 later Silver Age/Bronze Age keys. Almost every book in the collection is a CGC graded 9.4 or higher, with only a few in 9.2 and 3 in 9.0. Many of the books are in 9.6 and 9.8 condition and represent the highest certified copy. The most popular Silver Age Marvel titles are represented (Amazing Spider-Man; Avengers; Fantastic Four; Journey Into Mystery and Tales of Suspense) with near complete runs of the early issues. Mr. Schave has been collecting high grade CGC graded Marvels since 2007 and has put together an amazing collection, buying off dealers’ websites and going to the two comic conventions each year held in Chicago. He started buying books off Pedigree Comics in early 2010 and we developed a great relationship. He has continued buying books from us until the present time. He began consigning books to us in 2012 (starting with his impressive run of Amazing Spider-Man above #20) and we then purchased a few lesser runs of his, including his Daredevil 1-10 group late last year. We then bought his entire new X-Men run (X-Men #95 through #143) at the C2E2 show in April, when we finally had the opportunity to meet in person.

He never wanted to sell his other runs until most recently, when he called us regarding his desire to downsize his collection to just ultra high grade Silver Age Marvel keys and thus was ready to part with his runs. He offered us the opportunity to buy any run we wanted to but not individual issues as he did not want to break up the runs. After seeing his impressive list we decided to buy the entire collection, including his favorite early run of Journey Into Mystery #84 through #90, which he did not offer initially. After back and forth negotiations for the past couple of days, a purchase price of $600,000 was agreed upon on Tuesday, July 30th for all 74 books.
