Is your friend the author? I've got no beef with his general thesis but I think he needs to reread Love & Rockets. Calling it a romance book and crediting Astro City & League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with a more creative genre mixing strategy seems wildly off base to me. The title "Love & Rockets" was a major genre mixing manifesto all by itself, back in the day.

my friend is not the author. i think "general thesis" is exactly right, if i read correctly, this is a synopsis of a larger project that is to be a book. i also see flaws in the specifics but as an overall breakdown of shifts in creativity i find it coming close to how ive been thinking about comics historically.
