I don't go over to the PIF thread ever because I don't feel like I have much to offer up. And I'd never want to take someone's books and generosity and not be able to reciprocate. If people are in there doing that, that's just sad and pathetic. :facepalm:

Well, I really don't want to get involved in another argument about the PIF thread. I think everyone that cares about the thread is pretty much aware how I feel about the situation.

 

I just want to say that from my perspective, we've had maybe two people actually take advantage of the thread in the year and a half it has been running by either taking something and not offering up anything in return, or taking something and then selling it. Which I think is unfortunate, but also a pretty good track record overall.

 

We've also had far more people get upset who they felt like they were being taken advantage of because they didn't feel like the person who claimed their item offered up something in return that was of equal value. Which, as you all know, I think is ridiculous given the idea for the thread in the first place.

 

My solution is simple: If you're going to get upset when someone accepts your offer of free comics, don't offer them. Either offer something that you actually want to give away or don't participate in a thread designed to give people free comics.

 

That's my 2c , which I really will try not to repeat again.

I doubt the PIF thread will ever be without problems. Even if it were broken down into specific categories (TBP PIF, GA/SA/BA/CA/MA PIF, Slab PIF, Non-comic book but comics-related items PIF), it will still probably have problem. And creating so many categories would be a major pain.

 

That's why, after many suggestions, I created this thread- to at least try to keep the PIF thread itself from being cluttered with distractions, and also in case someone wanted to add a theme song.

 

Maybe each forum (GA/SA/BA/CA/MA) can have its own PIF thread. Just another suggestion that has probably already been suggested.

I think there should be (like office Christmas parties) a "maximum value" allowed for the comics or books offered, just to halt any future issues.

 

i.e Hypothetically speaking, one guy offers a CGC 6.0 Hulk 181, a person quickly accepts and then he offers a VG run of Team America 5-10, and lists the Hulk 181 for sale on eBay. :o

 

Something like a $100 limit would stop this from happening, and all the bad feelings and words that some are "gaming" the system for profit.
