Anyone used COD through Fedex before?

I am thinking of using this to buy a comic, but I am not sure exactly how it works. I do not completely trust the seller, so I thought this might be a safer alternative for me. Am I allowed to open the package before paying for it to make sure it's legit, or is that not allowed?

Yes you can open it but once you do its yours ... you still must pay the shipper the cod amount and work out any issues with the seller if there is one.

If you open it in front of the FedEx carrier and it's not what you ordered, at least you would have a credible witness should you have to make some sort of claim? Other than that I'm not sure what the upside of COD would be.

I thought I heard something off where you have 20 minutes to examine the said contents. If that is the actual agreed service the seller that hired the shipper paid for.

On the flip side I think I remember Fedex telling me they just collect payment. If the check is bad/fake you're screwed.

 

Anyone that demands any type of special payment throws up red flags.

There is no FedEx / UPS driver alive that can stand there for 20 mins. while you examine your shipment ....

If I were the seller, I would never do COD! Why would I send something of value out without being paid up front? It's way too risky.

 

Also, COD is generally considered a thing of the past. Most carriers will look at you funny if you want to send something COD.

Really? That must be why UPS and FedEx each have sections on their websites telling shippers how to ship with C.O.D.

Ya, not sure if I agree with that thing of the past statement, but I'm pretty sure the seller is a scammer anyway, so he has nothing to lose
