2013 was the year I really focused on converting non-keys and minor keys into mega keys. I'm really happy with the results. :)

Very impressive! :golfclap:

Which books is your favorite of the bunch?

Thanks. It's too close to call between the Batman, All-Star and Whiz. All three books I've admired for a long time.

I think I'd go with the Bat, but all 3 are such great books. The Marvel's aren't too shabby either.

Spent some time thinking about this and here's what I came up with.

All in all 2013 was pretty good to me.

Variety being the spice of life, I thought it would add one comic, one piece of original art and one "special" comic book related item.

#1 "The Luck of the Belgians" aka The Walking Dead #1

At the beginning of the year I bought Walking Dead 1-25 from a local collector.

The book was sent from Diamond in the US to a comic shop in Belgium (mailed first time...thousands of miles).

A fan bought it, read it and then put it away for a few years. I bought it and he sent it to me (mailed a second time, about 100 miles).

I got it out of the bag, scanned it and then sent it to McMiles in Texas (mailed a third time, again a few thousand miles).

Mike pressed it for me and sent it from Texas to CGC in Fla. (mailed a fourth time, over 1000 miles)

Incredibly the book came back graded CGC 9.9.

#2 "Three decades later and I still haven't grown up" aka John Byrne OA

I tend to mainly collect pre-1980 OA (especially EC comics OA) but when this came to market it hit all the right notes. John Byrne is my favorite 80's artist and like almost everyone his Uncanny X-men run made me a lifelong fan. This page comes from Fantastic Four #250 which was the first FF comic I ever read and one that will always be very important to me. I can still picture the day and the place where I read it, not to mention the childhood friend who brought it back from America for me as a present.

He's long gone but not forgotten, and he would absolutely love the fact that I managed to find a page from one of our favorite comics more than 30 years later.

#3 "The Luck of the Belgians part #2

When we (GACollectibles & McMiles) were at SDCC, someone told us that there was a new comic shop opening in Las Vegas .

As we were going to be in Las Vegas on that day we drove down to check it out.

The store had Len Wein, Herb Trimpe & Joe Rubenstein there to sign books because it coincided with the release of the The Wolverine movie.

The three creators were invited to the store but also to the world preview of the movie that was going to be shown that night in Las Vegas.

We managed to get tickets for the premiere ($25 each) and went to see it.

Before the movie started there was a panel discussion + Q&A with the three Wolverine creators, it was interesting and a lot of fun.

At the end of that they held a raffle, your ticket had a specific number but you could also purchase additional raffle tickets.

There were a couple of really nice prizes, but the highlight was an electric guitar with Wolverine graphics, signed by all three creators.

Well I couldn't believe my ears when they drew my number + name and I won the big prize at the Wolverine premiere raffle

Guitar got signed by Len Wein, Herb Trimpe & Joe Rubenstein at the premiere and came with a certificate of authenticity.

I was over the moon to win it and to meet with the three gentlemen, it also made up for the $600 I lost gambling at the casinos that day.

It was a lot of work and planning to get it from Las Vegas to Philadelphia, then to Boston, then to Dublin and finally to Belgium...but I managed it.

I'm planning on giving the guitar to my daughter. She's just finished her first year of guitar studies so I think an electrical guitar will delight her. Probably will destroy the sigs on there, but her smile will be worth it.

2013 was a good year for me! I downsized some of my underground comix & made a move into Silver Age books, adding four in 2013- X-Men #1 & #2, JLA #1, and Fantastic Four #48.

I hit two conventions and lots of local comic & antique shows (Elkhorn, Cedarburg, & Burnham Bowl).
