Scale of Restoration

9 posts in this topic

I have a Action 252 coming back from CGC as restored, and I bought it from a dealer who has a restoration guarantee. However, I think this may be the mildest form of resto as far as the FMV hit it will take. Note is: Restoration includes: small amount of glue on spine of cover. How serious is this? Should I return it? Get it professionally removed (never had resto removed before)? I don't think the glue is preventing the book from falling apart as the staples were still fairly solid. Thoguhts?

I think, on that book, it is certainly worth having some at least take a look and offer an opinion of the structural integrity and the ease of removal. BTW, do you know what grade CGC gave it yet?

It's low grade, 2.5.

[font:Georgia]It sounds like you love the book. I would just ask, Why give "veto power" over anything you love to any other, much less a corporation the profit of which derives from finding flaws?

When it comes to things you love, I would advise (were you my friend), don't buy into the cultural tendency to confuse financial with actual value. It is dull, it is ordinary and all around, and it is utterly ruinous. And, it's a game that nobody wins.

Love what you love, people. Not as easy these days as it might sound. And disagreement on this forum or elsewhere need never necessarily lead to spitefulness, a coldness of spirit, or loss of living community. [/font]

Here are some pics. I'm pretty much set on returning it. I basically payed FMV for an unrestored book in about this grade and see no benefit to having the resto removed. I don't really want a PLOD on this one. Though I can't for the life of me see the glue on the 'spine of cover'.
