While looking through my bookcases for Willie Mays memorabilia, I found these interesting paperbacks.

“The Iron Dream” by Norman Spinrad purchased during my college days almost five decades ago.  Met Norman Spinrad and was fortunate enough to have him sign my copy.

Feast Unknown is absolutely X-Rated.  If you know, you know.  Tarzan fights Doc Savage in a frenzied sex orgy.  The follow-up is pretty mild.

Soldier Art (1945.Armed Services Edition 739) cover

The first one of these I've gotten, and it's appropriate subject matter.  I take it the generic/ugly covers on these was to prevent resale or any ambiguity?

I took photos of this one, because the the scanner would do absolutely no favors to this grubby yellow.  A nasty copy, perhaps it was folded in a pocket in a trench somewhere.  I picked it up out of curiosity in a larger batch of pbs, an odd book, but an easy read   A single staple and a small number of color pages at front and back.

There's a Tom Selleck version of this Elmore Leonard western.  I do believe I'll read the book first.  I like Elmore Leonard's western short stories, not sure if I've read a full length of his before that wasn't crime.

There's a 1956 film from this one, looks like Les Savage helped with the screenplay.

and a freebie the seller of this batch (minus the moon cult book) threw in.  Stratton was prolific in the pulps writing in Sports and Detective pulps as well as in Doc Savage and The Shadow.

My copy.  I've got the 1st edition of the Double as well somewhere, with some very nice covers by Gray Morrow, but not sure which box that's in.

Well, Philip Jose Farmer later wrote "biographies" of both Tarzan and Doc Savage, as well as an "official" Tarzan novel and an "official" Doc Savage novel.  So it somewhat amazingly didn't burn bridges with the estates, and the Playboy Press edition of A Feast Unknown came out after the biographies.  I think Playboy Press also did the 2nd printings on the biographies around the same time as the re-release of Feast Unknown.

Quick public service message: if you're looking for a bookcase for paperbacks, digests, and big little books, Hammacher Schlemmer makes one with sliding glass doors for 500 bucks. They call it a "CD/DVD" shelf because they don't know that it's actually tailor-made for paperbacks.  

If it can hold 468 DVDs, then that's also how many paperbacks it stores.

The bummer is the shipping cost. They are located in Illinois, so if you live in the Midwest, shipping is probably reasonable. I live far away, so I calculated that shipping would be $250. And you can only buy directly from them, they have no other locations or partners around the USA. 

I really, really want one, but I'm not going to pay 50% of cost for just shipping.
