Looked at this copy. Definitely a bit of dried out glue but solid for now with a bit of separation along top of spine. Now, I will know what to avoid.

I don't avoid books with pull back altogether, sometimes that may be the best you can find and the book is otherwise solid, but overly dried out glue can be a hidden problem.

To play along nice :) the earliest mainstream "gimmick" cover I can think of was 1976's "Two Much" by Donald Westlake from Fawcett, which had fuzz applied to the painted book cover art. I believe I read somewhere that that the fuzz was hand applied, which, if true, must have been quite a job.

Kind of like the Stones album, "Sticky Fingers", with the actual zipper on the cover. One thing about embossed PB's, they're often found cheaper than cover and still in shape. I'm certainly not trying to be the first on my block to collect them all, but if I find any by some of my faves, like Cornwell or J Alexander Thom, I'm on board. If this makes it seem as if I like historical fiction, I will have trouble denying it. GOD BLESS ...

As I was told the original cover art has the girls naked and the book was printed thusly with the floss added in a second pass. I've never scraped off the floss to find out. Kinda like the 2nd state of the Beatles 'Butcher' album cover. Also, supposedly some copies were not flossed correctly and were released nakedly. I'm not sure if either story is true...

In a whole week of travel covering the better part of a few different states, I only got the chance to hop in a single flea market today.  I actually found the most vintage pbs from my collecting area in a single spot by far.

The best part was the one to five dollar price range.  The worst part is everything was low, low grade.

Amazingly, I didn't walk with much, as time was of the essence, but it was still cool to see spinner racks full of pbs and just to know I can find them out there in the wild in numbers once in a long while.

Very cool to see any vintage pb's in a flea market, nonetheless on a spinner rack :headbang: Was there a topper on the rack?

I can't recall, but don't think there was.  I didn't even think to get a better picture of the rack, I was too busy spinning it around looking for books and then off to the next shelf :sorry:

The vintage pbs were kind of mixed into all the different genre areas.  The crime stuff was best.  The SF stuff had been picked over pretty well.  Sadly, there was so romance/sleaze sort of material.

Pretty nice selection.  The variety of secondhand books in a college town is always pretty good.  Wish I'd had more time, but I was pretty much just skimming for PC or high value flip stuffs.  I should have grabbed a stack of readers but I had a whole market to get through, and my wife was on a bench outside :O
