two identical Kamandi lots-one sells, the other doesn't-a lesson

I never start auctions at 99 cents. When you start low, you need at least 2 bidders to get your price and you risk losing your item for nothing. If you start at the price you want, you only need one bidder. Eliminate the risk; start high.

My 2 cents.

This.

I have no interest in selling anything for 0.99 cents on Ebay.

But personal experience is the 99c starting auction seems to lead to greater success.

Yeah, greater success of selling it for 99-cents. lol

my last 99 cent auction ended at $178

all my auctions except high dollar original art have started at 99 cents and nothing has ever sold for 99 cents.

Do you really think if you listed FF #22 at 99 cents it would sell for 99 cents? Is that really the argument you are making? I just want to be clear here.

Why do people enter a thread to complain that the thread shouldn't have been created, thereby bumping the thread to the top of the page?

because psychologically we rail at traits we see in ourselves.

How about just starting a catch all "Stuff Kav Thinks" thread.

You can ramble on all day, every day...but not litter the board with thread after thread after thread.

Win/Win.

I suggested to Kav that he starts a thread in the journal section. I know would read it. But I think he took it as ball busting. (shrug)

Yes I tried to start a journal but I do not have permission to do that.

You're stuck with me here I guess.

yes as i said I would never start at 99 c for anything worth over $90. The item that sold for $178 went higher than I expected.

I'd be interested to know what book worth thousands had no bidders though....

if it was a golden age book be sure to put 'golden age comic' in the title-a lot of collectors do a daily search of ending soonest golden age books to sniff out bargains-haven't seen very many.

eg there's a shock suspense stories #3 ending in one hour currently at $40:

Batman 189 First Scarecrow CGC 9.8 paid around $4500 for it and then it sold for $2,750 on EBay. I never said it had no bidders, I just learned a lesson.

ah-gotcha. sorry to hear about that-that stings.

I guess in that particular instance a BIN $5000 would have been the best way to go or maybe a starting bid of $4500....

definitely I am not arguing for a 99c starter on something like that.....

Here's what happens when you start a book at 1 penny:

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p2047675.l2565&rt=nc&item=201032131442

And here's what happens at 99 cents:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Saga-17-CGC-9-8-First-Print-Mint-New-Image-1-HOT-Series-Vaughn-/400659677617?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item5d492d81b1

Dont start something where you lose money. I sell raws for mostly $1 and that's okay, I still make my 34 cents or so after fees, but a big book or a slab is asking for trouble.

??? that book is only worth $2! just because it's slabbed doesnt make someone want a $2 book very much....likewise with the saga...

a book worth a couple buck slabbed is not gonna get much attention....definitely don't 99 c them...not that they'll sell if you BIN for $50.....i suggest not slabbing low value books....

Point is, he has at least $14.40 invested in it for grading and lost that. He started it at a price that was below his cost and it ended the way we all thought it would, a couple bucks. if he did start it at $14.40 and someone bid on it, he would be somewhat okay.

yeah I guess I'll revise my statement to start auction at 99c to attract bidders if it's something people will actually want.
