I always thought he was flying on the cover of Action 7 - is he just jumping with style?

 

Yes, those are leaps & jumps. Back then, he was more like the Hulk, able to hurl himself in the air for long distances.

Yeah, there's a list somewhere of all the powers Superman has had at one point. My favorite is that he was able to use his super-strength to move the muscles in his face to adjust how he looked so that Clark actually looked like a different person and that's how he was able to disguise himself.

There were a lot of "firsts" for Superman in the radio program & flying was one of them. Flying in the radio program does not corolate to the exact time he was flying in comics.
