Just watched this trailer and thought ...comic book. Then, no, maybe one of those paranormal romance novels. Wait...could be some weird live action anime.

 

I don't no what the hell it is. But it seems to hit nearly every niche trope in current speculative fiction. Like some pop culture smorgasbord.

 

 

Can't tell if I should be interested or avoid it like the plague. Any thoughts?

The trailer gave me mindspins. In the 2 ½ minutes I thought I saw echos of...

 

Superheroes (some Cap sheild weilding roof-runner?)

Sin City (span-jumping two-handed-30-degree-angled shooter in freeze frame)

Star Wars (Naboo cityscape)

Star Trek Nemesis (black clad drama queen villain guy screaming his demands)

Harry Potter (a naked house-elf getting wall slammed)

Star Wars (girl in full Queen Amidala regalia)

Anime (some girl with Raggedy Ann dreadlocks sitting on a skybike. Assuming it was a girl.)

Harry Potter (some winged Griffin-thingy)

 

...plus butterfly swarms and some Heavy Metal ships and weaponry.

I see red flags: overacting bad guy

Story of lowly chick who is actually some super important princess.

Heavy on the romance element.

Preview looks a lot like that of the ultra sucky 'Elysium'.

I doubt that I'll go see this one. I like Mila Kunis but it looks pretty formulaic. Is this a Battlefield Earth remake?

Pass seems a lot of money on effects and not much on story yet. All wait till video.

They need to make a live action Final Fantasy.

 

And by they, I mean anyone who has some talent and willing to go the extra mile for authenticity and not worried about money.
