Couple of facts:

 

Dazzler was so incredibly popular after her introduction in late 1979, a year later, she had her own ongoing series, the first such character from the X-Men to do so.

 

It would take another year and a half for Wolverine to get a mini-series, a distinction which he shared with HERCULES.

 

I'm sure a lot of kids thought Wolvie was the greatest thing in the universe, but either Marvel was completely clueless (and again...Marvel gave Dazzler her own ongoing series based on her popularity)...or he wasn't as universally loved as you guys remember.
