Highlights of a collection I picked up yesterday

19 posts in this topic

Here are a few pics of a collection I found on Craigslist yesterday that was literally less than 1/2 a mile from where I live. As I was going over the collection with the owner her phone was ringing non-stop, buyers offering $1000 over the listed price sight unseen. The ad had been up for under half an hour when I called the owner. Turns out her uncle had passed on recently and they needed the books moved from the assisted living residence he had been staying in. The ad said 42 boxes, but it was more like 30, these are what I have found so far that is worth mentioning. I've nearly a complete run of PP Spec Spidey to go through, copper ASM's in the 100's through 300. No 194, 238, 298, 299, or 300, they cherry picked their own collection to help pay for living expenses while the owner was still alive. I've run a full run of Transmetropolitan, Scalped, first 5 of Sandman Mystery Theater plus 15 more boxes to look through. A lot of these books look like they were never read, maybe his pull list got out of control...

Cool! I picked up a collection as well a little over a week ago. 14 long boxes. Some decent stuff. Pulled out the usual suspects like a NM 98, X-Men 266, Wolverine 1, ASM 261-263, Sandman run, a boatload of TMNT books.

The things I was most impressed with is the condition these books were in, and that there was a healthy run of WCW Wrestling (2 number 1's) which I never see, much less have found in collections I purchased. Quite a few obscure titles like Hook, Disney's Lion King, and a few others which I'd never heard of before.

From what I understood, these were mostly sent by Marvel's licensing office to the owner of these books, as this individuals company handled Marvel merchandising in Canadian markets (not sure exactly what type - t-shirts, or other novelties). There are these little "kit-type boxes" sent with Marvel licensing office documentation (invoice type) which lists the books in the box, and they are literally untouched. That's also something I've not seen before.

i bought a batman action figure lot cheap yesterday. Guy threw in some comics. At bottom were two VG copies of Batman #189. I can live with that.

Oh, I forgot to mention all the Adult/Mature comics. A full run of Faust first prints, tons of books by Tim Vigil, Eros, Caliber, Fabulous Freak Bros, Cocaine Comix, Leather Nun (yes, Leather Nun), One-Fisted Tales and more.

1st Squirrel Girl.

:cloud9:

+1

One of these days Marvel Super-Heroes Winter Special is gonna go boom.

Especially once it's revealed that she's the secret protagonist in Original Sin. You heard it here first people.

To the OP - Great find. Congrats. :applause:
