Villains that were actually scary as a kid

We can look back and laugh at a lot of comic villains as we get older, but there were certain villains that were truly scary or intimidating to me as a kid. Others, that are arguably considered greater villains by most, were not so scary.

 

I'll give some examples...

 

Scary: Annihilus (Someone get Reed out of there)

 

Not (really) Scary: Dr. Doom

 

Scary: Ultron (long before terminator, he instilled a similar sense of fear and intimidation, relentlessness, and futility to go against).

 

Not Scary: Sabertooth (Wendigo yes, sorry, Sabertooth just no)

 

Scary: Man-Wolf

 

Not Scary: Lex Luthor (movie representations really added to that)

 

... any other thoughts? -- I realize there's a distinct bronze bias to my reasoning, but any time frame will do.

Don't even want to open Vampire Tales 11... It's like saying something scary in the mirror or playing oujia.

I can't think of any comic book characters I thought of as "scary".
