Amazing Spiderman #1 Variant Covers (how many)

182 posts in this topic

Does anyone else think that having Ramos do the terrible cover art for the normal copy is just a marketing ploy to get people to buy the variants? Not just for this comic, but ASM over in general over the last few years?

YES!!!!!

I've said this from day 1! it's like when your wife asks you to do something you dont want to do, so you do it, but you do a really bad job at it and then she never asks you to do it again!

like that, but with comics, and instead of doing something.... this sounded better in my head...

but yes!!!!

so, heres my question. Since the general concensus is that a lot of the issues, variants included, have bindary issues. is it a good idea to spend the money on an actual graded copy?

theres a store i know thats sending some off. Skottie Young covers, but nothing else.

ideas?

oh, and the cost is $60.

By the time you would pay however much for the variant, then shipping to CGC, paying for grading and/or Fast Track, and paying return shipping, I would rather just pay the $60 for a guaranteed 9.8 if I wanted the book.

so much spine tears due to insertion of inhuman 1.

did they learn nothing from ASM 700.

also whats the point of a blank, every artist and their mother has done a variant...

You're really the last person to be criticizing others of not learning from prior experiences and making the same mistakes again and again.

Are you going to address your shilling of your current ASM listing or just continue to pretend like its not happening?

Ya, I'm kinda thinking yes, but then again.... theres like 3 bajillion copies.... i'm wondering if after everyone rushes to get them graded, the price will settle lower once people realize there are so many...

My hearts not really into it that much... :sorry:

ok lets address it.

i shilled auctions, its a deplorable practice and i should know better.

all the ASM listings have been removed, and as with board selling i'm taking a step back and taking a look at my behavior before selling again.

i urge anyone who i've harmed financially through shilling to contact me and i'll quickly refund you.

anyways i can tell i'm no longer welcome amongst here, even just talking about my passion. understandable given my past.

with 700, CGC was a bit forgiving compared to a normal book when it came to the edges.

But, why? A 9.8 is a 9.8 if it's worthy, not because of sympathetic treatment. Does CGC really do that sort of thing? If so, that means ZERO integrity.

well I've seen 9.8 700's with a bit of corner damage. i'm sure others can confirm similar situations.

I'm ignoring this book. Too many covers. Too much market manipulation.

Everyones riding a horse hoping for a sunrise.

Def. get the feeling buyers and retailers a like are hoping for lightning to strike twice a la the Ditko 700.

I think what you meant to post was that you HABITUALLY shill auctions and continue to shill auctions even after "apologizing" to the board two, three, four times??? about doing it.

all the ASM listings have been removed, and as with board selling i'm taking a step back and taking a look at my behavior before selling again

How many steps back have you taken now? I've lost count.

But you aren't just "talking about your passion", you continue to push your books in this forum in non-sales threads, which is why your issues needed to be addressed again.

This is a discussion thread about ASM 1 and yet you felt the need to pimp your own auction in it. You also had the audacity to tell off that other board member who made a snarky comment about your past shilling by showing that you were no longer doing it with a link to a current auction as proof. Except of course the other ASM book you had listed , which you didn't bother posting a link to, was clearly being shilled.

At my local store I saw a guy and his girlfriend who obviously heard about ASM 1 on the news/radio/etc come in and drop over 125 on a huge stack and a couple Lego variants. He kept saying out loud "we're gonna make so much money" as he was checking out.

It made me just shake my head.

I think the Ditko ship sailed with the GameStop variant.

From my experience, CGC does adjust based on serious manufacture defects. ASM 700 was one example. Superior Spider-man #1 variants were another. Some of the variants all had a crease on the front cover, and were still given 9.8's. It does not mean "Zero integrity," it is an adjustment to reality.

I agree. If a book is 9.8, then it's 9.8. I don't want a book with dings in the spine because the printer screwed up and it's labeled 9.8. If it's 9.6 or even a 9.4, then that's what it should be.

I live in Canada and while I love our socialist views and policies, I prefer capitalism when it comes to my graded comics.
