It is my understanding that gripper holes don't normally affect the grade, but most of these have become tears to the bottom edge that go through most of the interior.

That is correct! In fact a similar copy of your book was graded 9.8 even with the gripper holes and an enlarged staple hole! I'll post the link when I find it!

7.0 with those tears, will you accept $10 for this piece of *spoon*

 

 

 

9.4/ with a shot at 9.6, but due to some stress at the top staple and non color breaking spine ticks, 9.8 is probably out of the question.

Yeah I would have posted actual scans as they usually make it easier to assess the condition of a book's spine but I was really only concerned about the gripper holes/tears.
