SDCC 2014 - Report and haul

9 posts in this topic

This year was a light year for me (ugh, a pun). I only managed to nab passes for Thursday and Sunday, so time was short. So was cash because I just bought a new car....BUT I did grab a few goodies. Here we go:

First up is what I came to SDCC this year for: the splash page of Redbird by Chris Burnham from Batman Inc.

Since I bought it, he threw in a 5 minute speed sketch of Damian Wayne in his 666 Batman suit.

Then I headed over to see Pat Gleason and Mick Gray! The two have worked together for years now as penciler and inker but have never met. Now they have:

And I was able to find this 75th Birthday Batman/Joker sketch that Pat hid outside of Hall H:

And next to them was Dustin Nguyen, another favorite of mine. He never sells his art anymore, so it was nice to see so much of it in person. Especially the watercolors. He won't sell any of his Lil Gotham material, but I was able to grab a nice pair from Batman Eternal. This is of Harper Row becoming "Bluebird". She is shown wearing a "Grifter"-like mask. Fun pages:

And I leave you with a pair of fun shots:

Thanks!

Yes, but they were VERY limited. All of the full body pages have sold (including that awesome splash page of her and Batman). I almost bought one that had a nice full panel of her, but didn't. :-(

I'd love to hear the story on this. What were the clues? Where was it hidden? Was someone holding it waiting to be asked for it or was it shoved behind a trash can?

And he stated: "You don't need a ticket to #sdcc to find this sketch just do a little pruning and it's there for the taking. If you find it post a pic and tag me so others know that it is gone!"

I noticed how easy it was to find, but had a million other things to do. But a few hours went by and nobody claimed it yet. So I meandered outside not even expecting it to still be there in PLAIN SIGHT! But it was. Just sitting there in a small tree just outside Hall H with thousands of people walking by not noticing it.
