Is Daredevil, Marvel's Batman?

93 posts in this topic

Stiltman's awesome.

Wish I could post that panel page from Vol. 2 when, after Daredevil's secret identity was revealed at trial, he just shows up at Murdock's law offices with the hydraulic stilt suit in a cardboard box and straight gives it to him, muttering, "All these years - I was beaten by a blind guy? I give up."

Haha I loved that!!!!!

And seriously, Daredevils rogues gallery is awesome. Not spidey or Batman awesome, but awesome none the less.

Kingpin, Elektra and Bullseye. Top notch trio. In terms of a "top 3" that's about as good as it gets anywhere. Very diverse and interesting characters.

Then the second tier like Typhoid Mary, the Hand, Mr. Fear, Gladiator and the Owl are pretty dang cool too.

Not to mention he has a "friendly fire" sort of thing going on with Spiderman and Punisher.

If you're just basing it off of the movie or Marvel sales or the back issue rack at your LCS or statue showcase then I can see how you aren't impressed with DD. BUT IF YOU ACTUALLY READ THE SERIES THE LAST 15 YEARS, YOU'LL KNOW ITS CONSISTENTLY BEEN THE BEST BOOK MARVEL TROTS OUT EACH MONTH!

The thread really should read Batman is DC's Daredevil. I am sorry, but the gritty stuff all came from Frank Miller in Daredevil's run before he did Batman. Hell The Killing Joke is just a retelling of a Daredevil story as well by Alan Moore. The Joker is Bullseye and Batgirl is Elektra. In a one on one fight no weapons, gadgets, and etc Daredevil wins every time. Heck Spidey is the Robin of Marvel Comics he is everyone's sidekick including SuperPro.

Um, that certainly is an....interesting....theory.

It would, of course, require you to completely ignore the first few years of Batman's history, along with the Neal Adams/Denny O'Neil stories, and the Englehart/Rogers stories, and most of the Moench stories....

But, I guess comparing it to Sci-Fi Bats of the late 50's/early 60's, you'd have a point.

hm

And Spidey's rogue's gallery is lame.

Yes, I said it.

Green Goblin? Lame. Vulture? Lame. The Enforcers?? Lame. Electro? Ok, I'll grant Electro. Shocker? You mean, the Electro clone? Lizard? meh. Sandman? Lame. Hydroman? Lame.

It's not until we get into the 70's and 80's that Spidey starts developing great rogues. Venom, Hobgoblin (who was way cooler than GG), Black Cat, Punisher, etc.

But Batman...now THAT is a rogue's gallery.

I'm a sucker for Mysterio.

But you're right, the later years had better villains.

Absolutely 100%. GA Robin a bad@$$; but DD tells Punisher what to do. Spiderman asks DD to

check Punsher. They need to do a "Dark Night" type version of Daredevil... And capture the darker aesthetic. Then, DD blows up like batman's godfather; which would make Robin... Like a nephew.

Batman actually is Bruce Wayne; however, Bruce Wayne freelanced through an alias, Matt Murdock. Crossing the street & chemically-blinded, Matt becomes DD, but maintains his lawyer cover & jumps the fence as Batman.

Therefore, DD is the most BM-analogous Marvel character, if they can develop the deeper character aspect. And, make kick movies, staring: OMG... BM who aslo played DD in another movie (that movie of which we never speak again).

Not a Green Goblin fan huh? :o

What about Doc Ock? Kraven?

Vulture, Lizard, Sandman and Hydroman - I won't argue with you. meh

Why is Shocker an Electro clone? ???

Mysterio. Hobgoblin. :headbang:

Some also find him a little too similar to Spider-Man.

- murder of his father (Jack Murdock) / father figure (Uncle Ben) creating a motivation to fight crime

- bookish, intellectual

- powers gained in a radioactive accident

- swings around NY using a billy club cable rather than a web line

I always found it interesting that, like a bat, Daredevil has an echo location sense - same idea.

Personally, a great character with long runs of excellent stories over the last fifteen years or so.

I was about to make this point too. I always thought that Batman should have been blind with echo radar, like Daredevil. That's much more "bat like". That said, it would probably seem like Bruce was bitten by a radioactive bat.

When Marvel and DC did the Amalgam series'... I was wondering if they'd do "Bat-Devil" or Dare-Bat" lol... but they went with Dark Claw. I bet some artists here could come up with some decent Amalgams of Batman and Daredevil.

and the DC vs. Marvel hatred rears its ugly head

Moi?

I love both DD and Batman.

Me too. In fact, DD is my favorite Marvel character, and always has been.

That's what happens when Frank Miller is your first exposure to the character.

The first DD book I ever owned was #158.

:whee:

Admittedly, Cyclops and Phoenix are a very close second. Spidey? zzzz

Ok, ok, ROM is my real favorite character published by Marvel, but he's not really a "Marvel" character.
