Spider-Woman isn't good for women when she looks like this

385 posts in this topic

I don't know about sexist, but that outfit sure looks like it would be uncomfortable

The position isn't the problem, although it's poorly drawn.

The "outfit" looks so tight it's probably body paint.

Which means she naked... that's the problem.

There are problems and then there are problems.

This is neither.

I don't think it's a good idea for mainstream comics to go the porno route.

There's plenty of places to go look at naked chicks.

I certainly wouldn't be looking forward to the naked Hulk variant cover anytime soon.

meh This is tame compared to the bad girl books of the early and mid 90's.

I thought, back then, that this trend was burned to the ground it was so overused.

I did not consider that there would always be a new generation of oversexed dudes buying books.

Or maybe the same generation of oversexed dudes buying them again. :D

I think she looks fine. She should look that way when slinking back in the bedroom or the kitchen to make me some bacon and eggs. :baiting:

Her neck and head is off where it should be. A little too far to one side. I'd like to retract my Liefeld comment, that's way too harsh for this artwork. A minor anatomy issue is not worth chastising the whole piece. I do like the pose. I think the shadowing on her neck (the implied trapezius muscle which connects directly to the neck and base of the skull) is going off in a direction that makes it look odd and not connected to the head. Perhaps a little shadow on her back behind her head would have helped a bit. Like I said, it's not much - but enough to make me look twice.

It's a little more apparant at full size:

I agree, but I will say it is pretty well done for a water color.

+1, the neck and head is way high and off, and you hit it on the nail with the trap. You would probably see a bit of the left elbow as well. A few little tweaks and it would be fine. Nice boot Te

Her left elbow appears to be directly attached to her left shoulder.

It's actually very tame for Milo Manara.

Yes. Manara is probably the world's most famous erotic comics artist.

Whether or not you'd have wanted to put a Manara cover on this particular comic is a worthwhile discussion. But if you hire Manara, you know what you're getting.

He's done some things for Marvel in recent years. I love his work in general, but his work for hire stuff where he's drawn other people's characters (I think he's done some Vampi also) has been a little hit and miss... as if he's not quite comfortable working in a typical wfh environment and/or isn't quite locked in on the characters. (And again, you'd presume in many of these cases, it's being implied... "you're Manara, so we want something sexy, but not TOO sexy because this is a mainstream American audience," which no doubt is a little odd for him)

The Spider-Woman cover wouldn't be my favorite of everything he's ever done, but he's a great artist in general with an impressive and important body of work.

She appears to have had more rhinoplasties than Michael Jackson.

They should just make some superhero chick whose power is hitting people with her butt.

Jessica's rump dimples aside. I was interested when news dropped of this title.

After seeing a horrible cover, plus horrible variant, that interest is waning. :(
