All-new, all-different JLX !! The original designs for the X-MEN/JLA fusions

13 posts in this topic

Hi guys,

I'ver just posted an "early bird" for what would be a string of related CAF posts;

The original design & model sheet for Amalgam Comics' Anglehawk

from the JLX team book:

http://qurls.com?i=54443

Angelhawk (Warren Hall) is an amalgamation of DC's Hawkman (Carter Hall)

and Marvel's Angel (Warren Worthington III).

JLX is a team combining character fusions of the Avengers, X-men and the

Justice League.

While Underworld Unleashed was the book in which I took notice of Howard

Porter's work, it was JLX that made me a loyal fan.

Howard puts so much effort and detail into anything he draws (his current

Justice League 3000 will blow you away), that even an in-house model sheet

like this one has the refined finish of a published pinup.

Personally, I just love Porter's depiction of wings :).

Enjoy (I hope).

Best,

Gal

Thanks for the nice words guys !!

It's great to see all the love pouring towards Howard Porter's early work.

I've always felt he was under appreciated and looks like he's finally

becoming the star artist he should have been years ago.

Anyhow, the second one is up (I hope to be posting more soon):

For today's JLXer, I'd probably need the help of an Amalgam professor

to help me figure it out:

http://qurls.com?i=54448

Goliath (Oliver Queen). An amalgamation of DC's Oliver Queen

(aka Green Arrow) and Marvel's Goliath (not sure which one...) ?!?

This is a really weird one - it takes both companies archers and

fuse them into something that as nothing to do with arrows...

To add to the confusion, there IS an archer character which does

actually look like a combo of Hawkeye & Green Arrow...

Anyhow, while it truly isn't my favorite JLX character,

it's certainly my favorite illustration of the bunch,

pure Porter goodness  .

Cheers,

Gal

Nearing the end of my "big" JLX update on CAF and finally I get to post

the original designs for my favorite Amalgam couple:

http://qurls.com?i=54454

and

http://qurls.com?i=54455

No real good reason for my great fondness toward them, maybe it's mostly due

to the fact that I really like their Marvel counterparts and Howard Porter's

depiction of them...

Next up: JLX' Flying Shield and trading card art !

Thanks for looking,

Gal

Now for something a bit different;

1) I've added Howard Porter's design (blueprint ;) ?)

for the 'JLA (Judgment League Avengers) Flying Shield'.

2) I've added the pencil prelims created for the Amalgam

trading card set. Including does created for my favorite

Amalgam characters.

You can check them all here:

http://qurls.com?i=47758

Now I need some help - I'm looking for some scans of the earliest

Amalgam comics character previews, probably published somewhere

within WIZARD MAGAZINE #54-#56....

I want to compare that early 'sneak peek' to the designs I have at hand.

Feel free to either post them here, or e-mail me at:

galschwart@gmail.com

Many thanks,

Gal

Hi guys,

Below is my final JLX art post (for now).

It's a big one for me as I've traded it (they are called 'trading cards' after all)

and I'm very happy to finally be able to have it back in my collection.

Huge thanks to the AMAZING Dave Kopecki who'd helped me so much

and still does.

So here it is folks:

I hope you'd enjoyed the little tour to the Amalgam universe...

Cheers,

Gal

I'm glad you've enjoyed them as much as I have, guys !

I've added to the Howard Porter folder a few prelim sketches created

for one of his earliest JLA covers(predates his famous JLA #1).

This ends my BTS pack of Howard Porter art. I do hope to get my hand

on more in the future...
