Well, I hope you held onto them all because CGC is going to be grading them by this summer!

...No,...that was the Woody who would give me free comic books if I let him watch me touch myself in special places at the age of 11, ........or sometimes a whole bunch of books, if I touched him or his friendin naughty places ,at night in his van,.....but yes,...it was off Jericho turnpike and Tulip rd behind Mahr's Pub....,...maybe I saw you there.....

The only thing I do remember stealing is a Playboy mag from a drug store when I was about 11 or 12. I did it in a very inventive way. It was too big to swipe all at once, so I hid it behind a ton of other mags and took it out piece by piece every time I went there(in my jacket, inside other mags that I bought). It took about a week, and the book wasn't exactly in CGC quality shape, but I enjoyed that mag quite a bit. blush.gif

Had the opportunity of a lifetime back in November.

First hour of the opening day of a show. I was in the back of the dealer's room looking at 2 really nice 8 foot high racks of books -- one was Silver the other was Gold. The dealer (who was obviously a nut) look at me and says, "I have to go to my car and get my antibiotics. Look around all you want."

There was no one around (literally). I could have emptied his racks and been out the back door in under 60 seconds. Oh well, maybe next time...

Not that I remember, but I have been a comic geek for most of my life so a couple of comics may have gotten stuck together at one point or another wink.gif

That explains the Amazing Spider-Man #1 stuck to the back of the Alpha Flight issue I submitted to CGC for grading. Thanks buddy. thumbsup2.gif

Do you believe in Heaven and Hell? Or at least Karma? It would have all come back to get you. You made the right choice.

This makes you wonder how often comics are stolen at shows. I was set up at Heroes Con last summer and left the booth for about 5 minutes to hit the bathroom. I come back and find someone had replaced x-men 109 with a Jack of Hearts #3 on the board. I asked my wife why she put that up there and she took off. She returned about 10 minutes later with x-men 109 and had the kid thrown out.

The kid's friends were able to divert my wife's attention while he went to work. I am always more suspicious than I probably should be now when customers bring books to the booth and don't want a bag.

I have seen quite a bit of this. There is a dealer who is regularly at Chicago Comicfest who I have seen disappear for 30+ minutes at a time, with nobody watching the table. Just for fun my friend and I took a copy of Iron Man 1 off the wall and walked around with it to see if anyone would notice or stop us. They didn't. Since I am not a lowlife scumbag thief, I replaced the book. However, to quote Full Metal Jacket, "If it wasn't for dickheads like him, there wouldn't be any thievery in this world, would there?"

I stole a comic second-hand. I found my mom's extra change purse in, of all places, a drawer in her sewing machine. It was an antique Singer wood cabinet floor standing model with all kinds of panels and drawers, and within the drawers were tons of weird looking little tools for maintaining the thing. But one drawer had a small bag and in the bag was change and I took a quarter out and went to the A&P and bought, of all freaking things, a Classics Illustrated of Robinson Crusoe. This must have been about 1958 or 1959 or so. It was the first and only comic I ever bought until I hit about 30.

I remember my friend poaching Daredevil comics in '77, '78.

Poaching? What is this? The 18th century? 27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gifstooges.gif

Reminds me of a funny anecdote that Mark Evanier told about "kyping" comics from a local store he frequented when he was growing up. I think the same story involved a Playboy magazine that was stashed behind the comic rack. Funny stuff. I was hoping his site (www.povonline.com) had this in the archives but his old POV stuff is gone.

Interesting to see others had shops that sold adult mags next to the comics. My local store sold comics near the back corner where the cashier couldn't see. There were a bunch of adult magazines on the upper shelf that a few of us would rifle through. I thought about slipping one or two between the pages of some comics but they were way too big frown.gif . Now if only the store sold the Marvel Treasury Editions devil.gif
