Before sending a book to be graded....

9 posts in this topic

Are there any recommendations on making the book look better before sending it to CGC?

For instance, should one try to clean any dirt from the book, or flatten it or try to flatten any bent corners etc.

Are there some safe things to do that might improve the grade or is it better not to touch it at all?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

No, don't do a thing to your books - just pick the niecest ones you've got. makepoint.gif

Not sure I understand what you mean. You get three free ones by joining the society, correct? There is no other way to get free grading is there?

Not unless your mother works there! 27_laughing.gifinsane.gif

The 3 free gradings for joining are at the express level (20 business days / $4,000 per book limit). So, it's wise to send in your MOST expensive books (unless of course you have multiple NM copies of Action #1 or Tec #27 lying around) makepoint.gif

1) Don't worry about dirt on the back cover

2) If the book has long or lots of non-color breaking creases, but other than that, looks perfect, and guide value is over $200 in NM-, then you might want to consider getting it professionally PRESSED.

Yes, some board members (and other collectors) frown upon pressing a book, but the fact is, it can (not alwats) improve the appearance of the book and increase the grade (and therefore resale value).

If these are books for your collection (probably not to be sold for a long time), then just send them in and GOOD LUCK!!!! grin.gif
