Anybody read the Shelly book,Y-The Last Man?

I'd like to read this novel, has anyone read it, and does the comic follow closely or losely?

Actually, the book doesnt have "Y" in the title. I havent read it, but the only thing it has in common with the comic is part of the title and a small similarity in theme. In the comic, all men, save one, are wiped out instantly by what seems to be a plague. In Shelley's book, all of humanity is gradually wiped out (male and female) by a similar plague.

 

I hang out on BK Vaughan's forum (www.bkv.tv) and there is a thread on books and movies with themes similar to the comic. He denies that it's based directly on any previous work.
