Can someone help me...

Since we're rehashing the old Age arguments... grin.gif

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

1993 started the era when the BABES ruled the racks (pun intended).

If it didn't have a half-nekkid female on the cover... it didn't sell.

Therefore, 1993-1999 should forever be known as the CleavAGE!

You travelled down a path that you shouldn't have, khurst. The overstreet is by far more than just a price guide. The information contained within is invaluable to any comic collector.

And that's the reason some of us have collections of Overstreet Price Guides to go along with our collections of comics...

Golden Age (1938-1955)

Silver Age (1955-1970)

Bronze Age (1970-1990)

Modern Age (1990-today)

What do you mean, "the prices?" Cover price?

1969-1971 15 cents

1972-1974 20 cents

1974-1976 25 cents

1976-1977 30 cents

1977-1979 35 cents

1979-1980 40 cents

1980-1982 50 cents

1982-1984 60 cents

1984-1985 65 cents

Great job! Might be slightly off though. I have a bunch of 84 and 85 books that have 75 cent cover prices. I'm not sure when they went up. And that could be just marvel books, I have no idea.

khurst,

I'm curious. How does one become a serious collector, yet never bother to even look at an Overstreet guide?. Which cheaper sources did you use to gain your knowledge? Not trying to pick a fight, just pick your brain and try to gain an understanding of where you are coming from.

Sure. I don't really see why an OS Guide is necessary to be a comic collector.

1) I can figure out FMV's from other sources (Wizard, when I chose to buy it -- even though they're often way off, internet sites, eBay sales)

2) I don't really care that much about graded books. I've read several internets sites (Heritage, etc.) that discuss how to grade your books. I'm still very novice at grading, but I have a good feel for the condition of the books that I own.

3) Information about books (what's coming out, what has come out in the past, key issues) I can find elsewhere. Online, these boards, my LCS.

I honestly don't know what other information is found in an OS guide, but for my purposes, these 3 things are all I really care about and I don't need a $30 guide to tell me about them. I'm not a comic dealer. I don't plan on selling many books anytime soon. I strictly buy for my enjoyment and entertainment. Why bother?

Because if you are a comic book fan, the Overstreet Guide is a very enjoyable read. It is not just about prices...

Oh well. Just because I don't read OS doesn't mean I'm not a comic book fan 893naughty-thumb.gif

I find Wizard enjoyable to read where most people don't. Sue me. hi.gif

Hey, I'm not saying you are not a fan if you don't read Overstreet. Just that if you don't, you're missing out.

Wow...don't tell me you guys are thinking of

The Antediluvian Age (Pre-genre stage) to precede Victorian 893whatthe.gif

technically, cave paintings could be considered early comics... confused-smiley-013.gif

And they are an important part of comic's history and should be made part of The Official Overstreet Omnibus Historical Comic/Pulp/BLB/Whatever-the-heck-else Reference (with Some Prices Too) Guide

a/k/a Overstreet Comics Price Guide.

Are you being serious? Or trying to pull my leg because I'm not sure about them? Cause I have honestly about 40 of these early/mid 80's books with 75 cent covers. And I bought them in Kansas, so I don't know how they would be Canadian covers. I'm confused confused-smiley-013.gif

1989-1992 seems to have been a pretty different comicdom era than 1984-1988

i suppose eras don't necessarily have much to do with collecting factors, but the 1992, a year in the overstock era, seems that lumping it in with 1985 maybe doesn't make sense, not that there isn't overstock from 1985

I was being serious. I have an ASM 238 with a 75 cent cover and several Simonson Thors from 337 on up with 75 cent covers - don't know how I got them either because they were bought in NY and NJ. It is possible that my or my cousin's LCS at the time reordered their stock from a Canadian dealer? They are canadian variants as at the time books were selling for US $0.60cover price, the exchange rate would have put it at 75 cents canadian...

do you still need an Os price guide - I have a copy of the big big spiral bound book from 2004...just looking for used mylars to trade smile.gif
