PGM WW #37-1st Appearance of Circe

15 posts in this topic

Hello All, :)

I just purchased this nice copy of a WW #37 after searching for what seemed like an eternity. :frustrated: and wanted to know what grade my fellow boardies thought it might be. (shrug)

The seller graded it a conservative VG-F, but it present much closer to the latter to me if not higher. hm

Any thoughts, thanks! (thumbs u

I think you got a nice presenting copy and it's likely a 5.5 General wear, but no significant creases to really pull the grade down. Looks flat

It really depends on if that upper edge is water staining tide lines or if it's oils from the paper from production that have just migrated and stained over time. If it's water, expect to be disappointed with the grade as that would pull it into the 3.5-4.5 range even though it presents much nicer.

The stain at the lower right on the front cover could also be considered differently depending on the cause. Still, it would be hard to go lower than 4.0 given it's overall solid appearance, and 5.5 seem right, though I could see it moving up or down an increment in hand.

Agreed after looking again, the staining is just not very detracting. Hopefully it doesn't go into the pages significantly. No lower than 4.0 but likely much higher. I have nice slabs with water stains that have been held at 3.5, but I think this one just has so many positive attributes. And I have seen water stains on beautiful SA books that ended up as 6.5 vs the 9.0+ they would have been otherwise. So as long as it's not an automatic large deduction off apparent grade, it'll be fine.

I hope so too. I think a dry clean could bump it a grade or two. Not sure how much is dirt (removable) and how much is foxing (non-removable). 6.0 would not surprise me either. Nice book either way (thumbs u

Yeah, I already sent her off to Joey to let him work his magic on it. I'm hoping for a 6.0 or better myself. :wishluck: This was a very HTF book :pullhair: , with highest being a 6.5 in the CGC census. :o

Okay thanks buddy. The seller did not mention any water staining to me in it's description and he grades very conservatively at 4.0 - 6.0. hm

I believe it to be on par with this raw copy. I bought this Four Color #129 as a F/VF from Comic Connect and it came back a slabbed CGC 7.5!
