Tape along spine, 1 ½” tape repair to cover tear. Nice page quality.

 

How low can this go

Is there a split under the tape?

No, just general transverse cracks in the paper, maybe a few small splits, but wasn't taped back in the day to close spine splitting.

I would have gone 1.8, maybe even 2.0 if not for the tape, but with the whole spine done, plus a big piece on the outside cover, it gets knocked down more than just a small piece at a spine split would for me.

 

When I sell books in this shape, I sometimes just list them as beat but complete or low grade and let the buyer decide where on the sub 2.0 spectrum it falls.

Good advice, I struggle with eye appeal vs non essential tape, vs obvious amateur tape application from back in the day. I graded this book twice in a double blind fashion with many months in between, and it ranged from 1.0 to 1.5+
