What you are showing looks to be a,full staple pop - not a staple tear.

Grading is a combination of all elements - not just one. You would need to post full scans to get even a barebones estimate.

ok so am I correct in saying that the highest the can grade is a 6.5/7.0?

Probably not. 2c

ok then what is the highest grade it could get?

That depends on the grades of the books with staple tears that you want to submit.

Size, length, depth of the defect as well as all surrounding defects will all affect the final grade.

What are you, new? :makepoint:

Dude - if you are going to try and make a living at this - you need to know how to grade. Buy and study the Overstreet grading guide. Also - go and search out eta nick's YouTube videos.

Note that this alone will not make you a good grader - experience will. Study study study.

Heck - take a day and look over heritage auctions - they have a lot of decent images of graded books that you can study.

That's why you

a) need good pictures of the entire book

b) can't have a grade cut-off for a defect - the severity of the defect is what determines the grade

Asking what the grade limit on the staple tear is makes a question you can't answer.

How long is the tear?

How deep is the tear, meaning how many pages does it go through (cover or interior as well)?

How many staples have the tear? All staples? Two? One? Some books have 3 staples some have only one.

Is the tear at both posts of the staple or at just one end of the staple?

Get the picture?

Grading is not about looking at the defect as a 2 dimensional thing and factoring it into the book, it's about taking the book as a whole and factoring all the defects into the grade of the book inside and out.

Yes, learning to grade can be confusing.
