CAF update: Norm Breyfogle BATMAN HOLY TERROR (1991) DPS

Hi all,

Yes, this is what I'd call a personal 'grail' piece:

BATMAN HOLY TERROR pgs 43-44 DPS

...

Norm Breyfogle - Batman Holy Terror - pgs 43-44 DPS.

Yes, this is what I'd call a personal 'grail' piece.

I love it, not because it's the largest, most impressive page

from the very first official 'ELSEWORLDS' book.

It surely wasn't because Batman decided to seek JIHAD against the state

(his words, not mine...) on this very page.

The thing in this DPS which had made such a huge impression on my 13 yr

old self was this incredibly creative and striking Batmobile design.

Funny thing is, I never got to pick up the book; I only had a chance to flip

through it while in a shop, and was told it was reserved for someone else

(back then they were only getting ONE copy of each book !).

Still, this unique version of the Batmobile really got me,

I considered it to be the coolest design ever,

and you know what ? I still do.

Wishing speedy and full recovery to my hero - dear Norm Breyfogle !

Thanks for checking it out (I hope),

Gal

Congrats Gal!

I know what a HUGE Breyfogle fan you are!!

Thank you Anthony !

Yes ! I am a HUGE Norm Breyfogle fan !

Norm Breyfogle art was the reason I bought my very first BATMAN comic

over 25 years ago (!!!) and was also the one to get me to start collecting

comicbook art !

I guess I should also mentioned that he was one of my main inspiration to

try and make a living as an illustrator.

So to sum it up, I guess he is the one to blame for my addictions as well as

my bad career choices :D ....

Love ya Norm <3 !

Awesome piece! I picked up the Holy Terror book off the racks back when it came out, and it was a favorite of mine. Think I'll have to reread it soon.

A few weeks ago I've read it for the first time.

I'll try to write a short review soon.

First impression:

uneven -script which begind with a lot of promise, introducing big,

smart, adult ideas and interesting plot threads, only to ditch most

of them in favor of a long, drawn-out fight scenes with 'guest stars'

from the DCU.

Imho, Alan Grant's scripts over on DETECTIVE were a better match

for Norm Breyfogle's immense talents.

HOLY TERROR left me wanting more, if this was a first issue in a series

it might have been a good thing, but as a standalone story it feels

unsatisfying.

I really hope there will be a sequel at some point as this (else)world

is worth exploring.
