ahh...that was a fun conversation. i got her turned around eventually. it's going to cost me a trip to napa valley this spring, but i figure that's the price it takes

 

Let me know when you go to Napa. I can send you to some awesome wineries. They have spectacular wines and are up in the hills with a view of the valley. Your wife will love it. cloud9.gif

My new girlfriend is just reading the 1st Fables TPB and is coming out to Wondercon with me. If she likes Fables and survives the WC forum dinner without kicking me in the groin for bringing her (Garth, please don't ask her any questions about certification poke2.giftongue.gif), then it looks like she's a "keeper" grin.gif

OK, I've tried to get you guys to play along, but I'd like to see what your loved ones will say in THEIR words, not what we think they would say. I think we may be surprised what some will say if they were to sit down and actually write it out. So I was going to wait, but I'll post my wife's comments in her exact words, unedited. I just asked her to write a few paragraphs about what she thought of me in regards to my comics hobby, good and bad. She e-mailed it to me and here is her exact words copied and pasted into this thread:

 

 

 

 

A Wife's perspective

 

As far as Sid's comic collecting/buying/selling hobby, it does not affect me at all, other than it makes me wish I had a hobby too, which I don't at the moment. The money he spends on comics, conventions, etc, is really not an issue for us because he takes care of his responsibilities, and has his priorities in order. I don't always understand the fascination he has with some of the bizarre-looking monster things he collects, but that is part of what makes Sid unique..I don't agree with him that his hideous monsters are "cute" but he likes them, is proud of his collections and that is all that matters..There are a few monsters and comics displayed around the house, which simply says "Sid lives here". We want our home to reflect both our personalities...Only one slight negative comes to mind which is I think he should spend less time sitting at his computer, since usually when I go to his home office he is more than likely on a message board having to do with comics, and can lose track of time for hours and hours. I do envy Sid for having a hobby that he enjoys, knows so much about and is so into that he loses track of time, I think it's wonderful.

 

I am not sure how much of his collections are "pornography-like" (I am sure there are many in his collection, I've seen them) and how much are toys/comics, nor do I care because it does not matter. The comic stuff does not take over his life but it is a part of it that he loves, and he still works full-time, plays in a band, works out, does his laundry, etc....

My ex did dress up as Wonder Woman for me last Halloween....that was a good night even though I looked like a tool in my Joker outfit. confused-smiley-013.gif

Seriously, all my ex's thought Comics were the new Crack. But they paid attention to spending the money I made from them! One time one of them kept some comics out of my collection (G.A. Green Lantern 1 FN, All Flash 1 FN, All Star 1 VG, # 3 VF and a Batman 100 NM ) as hostage till she made sure I didn't keep any of her stuff!

 

And the love of my life thinks comics are a nice way to divert my attention from her so that she can read or watch TV shows like Big Brother, Survivor, and Gilmore Girls in peace. (More leather skirts like in "Bad(der) Santa" Lorelei! ) OK I peeked in a few episodes! Hey my babe does like Smallville though, or at least she is very convincing in humoring me and the boys!
