ComicLink MAY Featured Auction DEADPOOL COVER Gil Kane Avengers WALKING DEAD

9 posts in this topic

I'm going to be consigning a few pieces of artwork via ComicLink's May Featured Auction scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 20th and conclude on Friday, June 5th, 2015.

Here's my preview along with brief descriptions for your consideration to bid online starting 05/20/15 next month...

Web of Spider-Man #5 Cover

Artists: Phil Jimenez / Andy Lanning

http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2Fauctions%2Fpreview.asp%3Fcode%3D2015may%26itemtype%3D1%26pg%3D6%23Item_1058307&id=1058307

Description

This is the cover to the rare variant issue of "Web of Spider-Man" Issue #5 which is Phil Jimenez's reimagning the iconic Barak Obama cover to Amazing Spider-Man #583 for which Jimenez was the original cover artist of. Images of the various covers as described here are furnished for contextual reference only, but the actual published comic books are not included with this auction, only the original artwork.

This cover comes in 2 pieces, the main portrait of Deadpool done in pencil and ink, then the "thumbs down" overlay done in pencil and ink where you can also see penciled layouts by Jimenez of Deadpool, both are rendered on separate 11" x 17" official Marvel comic book illustration boards.

The "Spider-Man" figure featured on the "Web of Spider-Man" #5 artwork is absent because it was added digitally in post production. That exact image was used for "Amazing Spider-Man" #583, so was not needed to be redrawn by the original artist, Phil Jimenez for this cover.

This Deadpool cover was also popular enough to be subsequently used as the cover for "Spider-Man Universe" Issue #16 released in Europe.

With the Deadpool movie, starring Ryan Reynolds scheduled for a 2016 release, the character is one of Marvel's fan favorites.

Both original art pieces are autographed by Phil Jimenez, and the main cover has an overlay of the patched artwork for further aesthetics.

What If? (Volume 1: June 1977) Issue #3 Page #43

Artists: Gil Kane / Klaus Janson

http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2Fauctions%2Fpreview.asp%3Fcode%3D2015may%26itemtype%3D1%26pg%3D6%23Item_1058312&id=1058312

Description

What If The Avengers Had Never Been ? Released in 1977, with artwork by Gil Kane, inked by Klaus Janson.

This is a pure action battle scene featuring Iron Man versus Namor, The Sub-Mariner, in the epic final battle where in the end, Tony Stark dies in this alternate Earth-776 universe. This issue was the 1st appearance of Earth-776 (http://marvel.wikia.com/Earth-776) and the Earth-776 characters on this page.

Four (4) of the dialogue captions are missing on the first 2 panels, but do reveal the complete artwork beneath as you can see, with production adhesive tanning where the word balloons once were.

Fantastic Four (Volume 1: December 1980) Issue #225 Page #23

Artists: Bill Sienkiewicz / Pablo Marcos

http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2Fauctions%2Fpreview.asp%3Fcode%3D2015may%26itemtype%3D1%26pg%3D2%23Item_1058311&id=1058311

Description

This page is by Bill Sienkiewicz and features Thor, of the Avengers teaming up with The Fantastic Four. This page features super heroes in every panel, including the entire Fantastic Four team.

The last panel has The Human Torch declaring his "Flame On" battle cry, with The Thing's dialogue ending in mid-sentence as a cliff hanger to his "It's Clobberin' Time!" decree.

Thor's use of his mystic uru hammer, Mjolnir is rendered beautifully as well, and this was published in 1980, when Bill Sienkiewicz's artwork was influenced by Neal Adams style, and is a fan favorite era in the artist's career.

Uncanny X-Men #510 (Volume 1) Issue #510 Page #24

Artists: Greg Land / Jay Leisten

http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2Fauctions%2Fpreview.asp%3Fcode%3D2015may%26itemtype%3D1%26pg%3D6%23Item_1058310&id=1058310

Description

This is an emotion filled cliff hanging conclusion end page of the X-Men featuring an intense scene with Cyclops and Wolverine by fan favorite artist, Greg Land.

Greg Land has been one of Marvel's most popular artists of both covers and interior work, the past decade and continues to work on high profile projects, most recently rendering the variant covers for "The Death of Wolverine" series.

Uncanny X-Men #541 (Volume 1) Issue #541 Page #15

Artists: Greg Land / Jay Leisten

http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2Fauctions%2Fpreview.asp%3Fcode%3D2015may%26itemtype%3D1%26pg%3D6%23Item_1058308&id=1058308

Description

This is an action packed splash page by Greg Land featuring the character, Pixie (Megan Gwynn) in a full figure pin-up pose, battling Cain Marko, The Worthy's Kuurth, best known as The Juggernaut. This was a crossover issue for the "Fear Itself" storyline.

Greg Land is an artist known for his beautiful photo realistic renderings, especially of females, and this is a prime example of his exquisite work.

Spider-Man Lifeline (April 2001) Issue #1 Page #1

Artists: Steve Rude / Bob Wiacek

http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2Fauctions%2Fpreview.asp%3Fcode%3D2015may%26itemtype%3D1%26pg%3D5%23Item_1058309&id=1058309

Description

This is the title splash page to the first issue of Spider-Man Lifeline, done by artist Steve Rude, best known for his work on Nexus.

What makes this page especially appealing is there's a full figure Spider-Man in costume above the story title in web slinging action along with a full portrait of Peter Parker in his civilian job as a photographer for the Daily Bugle with camera in hand, but done with the iconic half Peter Parker / half Spider-Man face, all while showing his spider sense going off, supported in addition, by the dialogue.

The origin of Spider-Man is also retold within the artwork of this page, and there's a silver age retro throwback style to the credits for Steve "The Dude" Rude and writer "Fabulous" Fabian Nicieza.

So, for Spider-Man fans, this is one of the most complete and aesthetic published pieces to own.

The page is hand signed by Steve Rude with his autograph in red pencil at the bottom

Doctor Strange (August 1968) - Issue #171 Page #6

Artists: Tom Palmer & Dan Atkins / Writer: Roy Thomas

Where do they tell you end date/times?

It's in their printed catalog, which they mail out to their customer database (I received mine in the mail yesterday).

Also in the auction itself when it's live (which it is now) there's a section called "END DATE" that counts down the days and minute left.

See below as an example:

WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #5 DEADPOOL VARIANT COVER
